Range Report - Heritage Rough Rider .22 WMR / Mag

NOTE: This is not a report in regards to ammo, this is a post in regards to first time shooting the Heritage Rough Rider .22 WMR / Mag with the .22 WMR / Mag cylinder.

Today is my birthday, and the first thing I wanted to do, is go out to the indoor range early, and shoot my Heritage Rough Rider with the .22 WMR / Mag cylinder that I bought off of ebay. I bought the Heritage Rough Rider on one of those holiday black Friday sales for $99.00 USD, a few years back at Academy Sports (the first and "last" time I do any black friday shopping, wild people out there).

I bought 50 rnds of Federal Champion 40 grain target rounds, metal jacketed. I was about 10 yards out, and I also was testing my right wrist to see how it would hold up, as some of you know I injured my wrist, and I have limited mobility with that hand.

I found as others have stated here, that the recoil is not that much different but the sound "was" louder than a .22LR round.

So the the large orange circle (not the 2nd duplicate pic with that orange circle on the head) that I put on the target picture below, was all two handed. I have to admit not the recoil, but the weight of the revolver was getting to me. But again, I wanted to test longer duration of shooting two handed, and as you can see my shooting started to creep more from the dead center more towards the upper left. Still great center of mass. The other thing to note, is that is "not" key-holing of the rounds.. some rounds I actually hit in the same hole, and other rounds may have "rip" more as I folded the paper target in my car.

The green circles on the head shots, are one handed weak / off hand, and I may do more of that shooting next time I go, with this revolver. Don't get me wrong, I think that it is "great" that this is a solid heavy gun.

I really like .22 WMR / Mag rounds, I think it does shoot a bit more accurately. For small game hunting, and... in regards to my case and situation... with my wrist, a pretty nice self-defense round. But, "TO ME" for over all cost and for range time, I probably will go back to .22LR for the range.

No problem, even if this gun was full price, I still think it is a great affordable option for everyone. I also think, that if I only shot one handed, the target would have more hits concentrated on the middle 9 area and closer to the red bullseye.

Happy birthday! Keep up the practice, and continue getting better shooting weak handed.
Since I heard of your struggles, I have been practicing more weak handed shooting. It's a challenge, but with practice, I think muscle memory will develop off/ weak hand as well.

Great report! It's good to see you working through things. My sage advice: I know you will do this but keep working and don't settle for anything. Lastly, I think I might change my name to Happydarbo!

Thank You.. awesome to hear that you are practicing one handed weak handed, I started doing that before my surgery.. and I'll tell you, it's one of the best things you can do at the range is practicing that.

Thank You, I appreciate your comment. I work on my hand every day to increase stranth.. it's the only thing I "can" do. I also bought a new gun today, my wife "wanted" me to.. I'll be posting that in the firing lane in a bit :-)
