    Did They Really Say That..??

The island on which I live used to be a Mecca of tourists back in the 1960's whan I was at school. The main town, Douglas, is a seaside resort (er.. was..) and sold all the usual holiday crap. Arm bands for swimming that wouldn't support a gerbil, swim fins that fell apart in an hour etc. There were lots of little arcades with shops only open during the Summer to sell to the great British holidaymaker all this rubbish, and more.

One such shop, whilst not catering for the aquatic pursuits of those revelers, did sell to the unwary 'silver' jewelry that had a habit of turning your wrist or ears black after a day wearing these items. They also carried out ear piercing. And this is the funny part...

On the pavement outside their little shop was a sign that read... "EARS PIERCED WHILE YOU WAIT"

    Well how else..!!
Happiness is like peeing your pants. Everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.

It is so much more effective for them to do that rather than try to get the job done as they run down the street or go snorkeling.

“…democratic socialism, the great utopia of the last few generations, is not only unachievable but that to strive for it produces something utterly different – the very destruction of freedom itself. As has been aptly said: ‘What has always made the state a hell on earth has been precisely that man has tried to make it his heaven.'” F.A. Hayek

Kind of reminds me of the first time I purchased 4 new tires and was asked, "would you like to have them mounted and balanced"? When I was growing up the mounting and balancing of newly purchased tires was a given. Not only a given, but given at no additional charge.

Tom, I live in "Pure Appalachia". and I have lived in Las Vegas and Washington, DC. I have seen nearly every weird little corner of this nation and some parts of Canada and Mexico. (I've even seen A LOT of Texas) But . . .

I still cannot conceive of the differences there must be between these and the beautiful little spot of this glorious world where you live.

    TELL US MORE !
You must be careful what you pretend to be, because in the end, you are what you pretend to be.

All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible. Such people have a tendency to become drunk on violence, a condition to which they are quickly addicted. . . . . . . . . . . . .. — Frank Herbert, Chapterhouse: Dune
