It's all in how you see things

Last month, I was down to the big VA Hospital in Martinsburg, WV, to get fit for new bifocals. There were some veterans there even older and crustier than myself, for sure.

The young Opthalmologist was pushing this old guy in on a wheelchair and he said, "So what's your trouble?"

The older vet said, "I see spots in front of my eyes."

"Ah, yes. And you want me to remove them?"

Before the exam room door closed, I heard, "No, ya dern fool! I want you to change 'em into stripes or checks!"
You must be careful what you pretend to be, because in the end, you are what you pretend to be.
    ....................Kurt Vonnegut, in "Mother Night"

All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible. Such people have a tendency to become drunk on violence, a condition to which they are quickly addicted. . . . . . . . . . . . .. — Frank Herbert, Chapterhouse: Dune

I interned at a VA hospital.
I met a lot of interesting vets during my stay.
There was never a lack of conversation and humor.
Met some very quick witted old farts.

You have to let them know what you really want, before surgery.

Yep, bad deal if you let them remove the wrong kidney.
