I agree, there is always the balancing act of expressing an opinion vs not. I am not going to pretend to know why he chose to speak. Maybe he had been asked about it many times and thought that was the most efficient way to answer, maybe it was a passing thought I have no clue.

Frankly, with all due respect for simply wearing the uniform, it’s hard for me to look at it him as real combat-hardened-and-wizened soldier. (I can't help but wonder, based on the timing and length of his service, if it amounts to artfully avoiding the danger of serving on the lines in Vietnam while skillfully ensuring that the government would pay for some or all of education, which wouldn't be very Libertarian of him. But, that is admittedly speculation on my part.)
Like you said it is speculation. as to his time in the Air Force in general I never once saw anyone compare him to a combat hardened veteran, and he was not giving advice on taking a hill or planning a strategic bombing raid.

I agree there. At the very least he could have chosen a better format and worded his comment better for sure.

People enjoy making straw men, hiding behind flags and puffing up their own experience in order to attack a thought that appears to attack something they hold dear. That is a lot easier than pausing for thought.

Opening ones mouth before contemplating how ones comments may effect the loved ones of an innocent person recently deceased is also very easy apparently.

No doubt. I think many people haven't quite grasped the consequences of today's instant communication capabilities. Old people, especially.

Honestly I'm okay. I would have maybe worded things a tad differently if I was in a similar position and felt the need to comment on this subject. Guess I just think that it's one guys opinion and although my feelings on the issue are very different I'm not going to get all bent out of shape about it. Maybe it was one of those things where it sounded right to him but made everyone else go Huh?? Unfortunately he is known for that. Who knows?

Those that like Ron Paul will continue to like him and those that do not, won't. During the GOP presidential debates, he was the only one who insisted on adhearing to the constitution, and for that he was ridiculed. Either way, he is retired and no longer a presidential candidate. His tweet was unfortunate, I don't excuse it or condem it, that's up to each of us as individuals.

My political efforts will be to defeat those who are trying to destroy our great country, they are in power and large in number. This thing isn't going to distract me from seeking liberty for my kids.

I going to stay focused on the real problems and move on.
A Leejack original: Socialism is the layover on the flight from freedom to communism. Democratic socialism (think Bernie & Ocasio-Cortez) is disguising that pig with lipstick to sell the tickets. I hope all those who subscribe to this democratic socialism reap the bennies that they sowed, just leave me and mine alone!.......

It is a shame that Chris Kyle and his friend was gunned down. No doubt. I, too, believe Dr. Paul's words were poorly chosen, and I have no idea why he thought such a statement would not be misconstrued. That, however, does not make him a piece of crap.
Your opinion. I respect it. I don't agree with it. His most recent statement is not the only reason I don't hold him in as high regard as many do. As for questioning my judgement - you are not the first, and certainly will not be the last. Sometimes I question my own judgement. Just not in this case.

Excellent point Lee and I agree entirely. Opinion and points have been well made by all and now it is time to move on. This one is closed

Ron Paul Tweets about dead sniper Cris Kyle an American hero

Ok all you Libertarians on this forum come and defend this. Disgusting

Paul wrote: “Chris Kyle’s death seems to confirm that ‘he who lives by the sword dies by the sword.’ Treating PTSD at a firing range doesn’t make sense.
"Well boys, I reckon this is it: Nuclear combat, toe to toe, with the Russkies"!
