    Question What do you think?

I received an e-mail this morning from the man who makes my handgun grips. He just got in a couple sets of blanks to be carved into bookend 1911 grips. The wood is Maple Burl (stabilized). I'm sure I can find something to put them on but I don't know what would look better with the red, a blued or stainless gun? I am still trying to decide if I like them or not.

I see gun control as waiting in an ambulance at the bottom of a cliff when we should be building a fence at the top!

As dark as the wood is I would go with the SS gun. The dark wood and the blued gun would be just that...dark. I'm always a fan of contrast.

I think it would look good on a stainless or nickle as well.

I tend to agree. The darker colors would really compliment a stainless gun whereas the blue would be washed out with a blued gun.

I have a cousin who makes guitars. (Luthier)
One guitar can have $1000+ in just the wood alone. He is back logged five guitars @$5,000 $15,000 a guitar.
when he cuts the neck and other parts he ends up with pieces perfect for grips and to small for anything else he does. Cocobolo, burl maple, mahogany, rosewood... Some of this wood has to be certified legal to perchance.
I'm going to try my hand at making some grips for a few of my hand guns. I have made cabinets and doors but no wood carving.

I'm in the SS/Nickel camp. I think that those grip panels would classify it as a BBQ gun!

“Historically, freedom is a rare and fragile thing . . . Freedom has cost the blood of millions in obscure places and in historic sites ranging from Gettysburg to the Gulag Archipelago . . .That something that cost so much in human lives should be surrendered piecemeal in exchange for visions and rhetoric seems grotesque. Freedom is not simply the right of intellectuals to circulate their merchandise. It is, above all, the right of ordinary people to find elbow room for themselves and a refuge from the rampaging presumptions of their ‘betters’.” Thomas Sowell

Just as I love the dark as the forest, I would go with the SS pistol. Dark wood and bluish gun I think is one of the best ways to go in the woods in the dark
