    Thumbs down Colt

Colt just announced today that they are no longer producing AR fifteens for civilian use. They say it is financial decision due to the soft AR15 market.

The anti gun people are going to consider it a huge win!

"Soft AR market." Huh. Maybe they're right, there's a buncha ARs at my local gun store that have been sitting in their rack slots for months.

I recall seeing one a month or so ago, used, forget the make, but it had a $280 price tag on it. I didn't buy it on the spot. $280 for a used but fully functioning AR-15 was a steal, guess I wasn't thinking that morning. No need to say it was gone when I went back a week later.

you have about 60-70 companies making AR-15's and everybody and their brother are building them at their kitchen tables. The market isn't soft, it's saturated. Folks making them will slowly but surely start dropping out of the market but Colt had just made a major investment in their Texas plant for Colt Competition. They should have seen the writing on the walls and set up a modular manufacturing site so they could change over tooling for better selling products.

MSR's have become a commodity item and the Colt cachet just isn't worth the premium that it used to command for the platform. Correct that the Leftist's will think that it's virtue signaling instead of a common sense business decision.

Back to the core business is often a smart move for a company, although their legacy in the AR business is legendary also. I wonder if they considered licensing their brand to another maker? Like Colt by Bushmaster?

Colt does this many times throughout their history. For a time, they stopped making civilian guns at all, if I remember correctly, this was back in the 90's and they only made guns for military use and contracts. I've never seen a rhyme or reason for that decision, yeah it's okay to focus on government contracts, but you can have a really lucrative business catering to Joe Consumer. This just opens up the AR market more for the rest of the multitude of players.

New AR's are going for less than 400 bucks. Colt was charging near a thousand.
