Almost all shootings where there is a claim of self defense initially involve a fear of life or serious physical harm claim, that's not unusual. What usually matters in court is the basis for that claim, is that claim reasonable given the individual circumstances at the time. Unfortunity the news articles so far don't detail what the investigators know.
