What the heck is meant by "guise?" I see it used here all the time.

    Hi,

I keep seeing "guise" used here in gun posts.

Example: "Got one of those bad boys in 6" barrel guise." I lifted that right from a thread.

I've racked my brain trying to figure what it means by context.

    No luck.

    What does it mean?

    Thank you.

'Guise' is sometimes used to mean 'appearance' or 'form'.

To stay closer to the actual use, it means an appearance presented as a ruse or to deceive, but in the context, it's just a way of saying 'option'.
Most stereotypes come from how you treated the last person who didn't know you.

Using the above definition, someone tell me if this sentence I lifted from a post makes sense:

"Got one of those bad boys in 6" barrel guise."

It makes no sense to me.

"Got one of those bad boys in 6" barrel option."

It means the gun's got a 6" barrel.

    Glad to help.

To me, the way i see it used a lot here, it's just a completely unnecessary word.

"For a home defense gun I do use .38 Specials in +P guise."

"I have a 689 with 6" barrel and in blue guise. Excellent revolver."

Who knows? Maybe they do mean "guys."

Honestly, I'd ask the poster who used the term to find out what they meant. I also know that autocorrect will kick out words like that if you mistype something as it's the closest guess AC has.

    Think "disguise" without any dissing.

Be careful when you analyze interesting word usements. It can drive you naughts.

I think it is predominantly used by yutes (people under 40)

"I think our governments will remain virtuous for many centuries; as long as
they are chiefly agricultural; and this will be as long as there shall be vacant
lands in any part of America. When they get piled upon one another in large
cities, as in Europe, they will become corrupt as in Europe."
