It was a mistake to bring Turkey into NATO and it's a bigger mistake with President Erdogan at the helm. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps should have been labeled a terrorist organization years ago.

Plain and simple, the problem with Turkey is Erdogan! I mean, staging a fake coup to solidify his power with his goal being an Islamic Republic more closely related or Iran.

    F-35 deal may be cancelled due to Turkish purchase of Russian anti air missiles. Someone is waiting in the wings to fill that order;

Partly true. He's the political problem, but deep down, there are a lot of people there who hate us. Witness the comments in this thread from people who've lived there, well before Erdogan was in power.

Turkey is in essence a glorified dictatorship based on recent history.

Turkey needs us more than we need them.

if I were President, all US forces would have been moved to Cypress at the British airbase a year ago.

Turkey is closer to Iran & Russia than the USA. Turkey’s role in NATO remains a serious question.

Finally ask Armenian Americans about Turkey & their history with Armenians.

    It’s ugly.

    Look at:

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ravished_Armenia

Turkey is still angry about WW1 & won’t discuss the Armenia Genocide.

Not having anything Turkish is important to me.

Unfortunately, all true! I don't think American tourists visiting Istanbul and Ankara had it so bad, but living there as an ex-pat? No thanks. Now, what to do with all those nukes we have in Turkey before our military bases come under attack?

And the genocide the Armenians suffered ranks right up there with Nazi Germany, and the Russian Revolution and its aftermath. Armenia, not exactly known for its wealth or population size . . .

The Turkic people were from Central Asia. Anatolia was a province of the Byzantine Empire until most of it was lost to the Seljuk Turks in 1071AD (battle of Manzikert).

The Hittites were a much older peoples (about 1000 years before Rome was founded).

    +1
There's no way that US troops should ever fight to defend Turkey. They would never do the same for us. The IRGC should be labeled a terrorist organization because they are one.

Right! 1000 years before Rome would definitely make them Old Testament.
