16" barrel on a full A2 length stock is still pretty handy. The adjustable gas block lets me turn down the gas on this beast. Still, to me, it recoils about like a good 20 gauge gas auto shotgun. My single barrel Stevens 20 gauge kicks a lot harder.

Currently, .458 bullets are getting cheaper and there are a lot of them to choose from. Anything under $.50 a bullet is really a good deal. Berrys has a good plated 350 grain flat nose bullet at a good enough price for plinking. I pick up Hornady 325 grain FTX just about every time I see someone running a sale on seconds and blems. 300 grain Barnes is expensive but high performance. Then just about all the big guys make a good 300 grain.

Battle of Wanat: 10 years ago last 13 July, 1LT Brostram was killed in combat killing the last enemy combatant in the outpost. The LT went to the point of decision and made the difference that turned the tide of the battle. The original investigation found the Bde Cmdr, the Bn Cmdr and the Co Cmdr at fault for dereliction of duty. If you want to see what a sarcastic silver star citation reads like, pull up the company commander's silver star.

Is that a skin on the receiver/stock or did you paint that pattern on there? (Kept meaning to ask...)

I also, unfortunately, cannot imagine what a .458 socom or .450 Bushy would sound like out of a short barrel. A .300 BLK will most definitely take down hogs with one shot though. The super sonic rounds are basically at the velocity and weight of a 7.62x39 and the heavier bullets deliver even more energy at up to 100 yds (they don't need to be subsonic )

There are youtube videos aplenty (check out our occasional forum participant, AP2020) of 300 BLK hog hunts.
Well, my 7.62x39 pushes a 154 grain soft point to 2200 fps. It has killed hogs and deer to 100 yards and I'd push it out to 150 yards. I kinda prefer the ergos of the SKS, but even my folding stock 16" paratrooper is hard to get at from behind the seat of my truck. I'm still thinkin' on it, but I think the Blackhawk makes the most sense to carry in the truck. I've killed a pig with it at 60 yards. It's pretty hot for a handgun, around 790 ft lbs at the muzzle, and real accurate. It's a good go to when you really need a rifle, but a rifle is impractical. I carried that thing on my last trip to Big Bend due to the threat of mules and coyotes.

That Bushy from midwayusa.com is mighty tempting. I just dumped 800 bucks into my car to rebuild the breaks. Oh well, it's always something.

Painted on. This one was Duracoat, but since I have got as durable if not more, and considerably cheaper, finishes with flat colored spray cans and satin acrylic clear coat over the top. Both are really dependent on prep more than anything. The acrylic clear coats have been exception as far as not chipping or rubbing off.

I got my replacement Micro KAK Flash Can and mounted it. S & S Outfitters were great getting the swap done. I think it looks better, makes the gun more compact and as reported...should make little difference in flash/noise. Now have to test it!

An AR pistol gives you a wider range of ammo, most notably, rifle ammo. Remember though that even with an arm brace, it's a pistol, not a long range tactical weapon, and the ranges that it'll be used at are generally no more than what would be experienced with a semi-auto pistol or revolver. If you think of it as a good home defense weapon, remember that a .223 or 7.62 round at pistol range will more than likely pass through the home invader and hopefully not a family member behind them or through the wall. Like a bullpup, they are of greater value in clearing buildings in urban areas, where entering and exiting doors, alleyways dictate shorter weapons of greater firepower.

That's pretty close to the regular price on Amazon.
