OK folks - here's a little more info to whet your appetite for our Rapid City meet September 7-9!

On Friday September 7th we'll be taking the Landstrom's and Black Hills gold factory tour. We'll watch to see how each piece of famous Black Hills Gold jewelry is cast, shaped, ground, polished, soldered, cleaned, and engraved by the skilled artisans at the factory. We'll see the process of lost wax casting and how diamonds are cast in molten gold! There's a gift shop where we can buy - if the mood so moves us, AND this tour is FREE!!!

We'll also be going through the Museum of Geology at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City! This is a wonderful museum packed with

exhibits focusing on paleontology (the study of ancient life) and mineralogy (the study of minerals - including gems and crystals!) . This museum is also FREE, and I am currently working on getting us a special guided tour! Many of the Rapid City locals have told me how nice a museum this is!!

On Saturday September 8th we'll be having our shoot up towards Sturgis, SD and then we'll be going to the Belle Joli Winery Sparkling House, just outside of Sturgis, for a yummilicious pig roast!
The menu includes locally raised smoked and roasted pig, German sausage, harvest coleslaw, mac & cheese, sweet corn and peach crisp with vanilla ice cream - and a glass of wine from the Belle Joli vineyard - all for only $45! There will also be beer and I just can't think of a nicer way to wrap up our day of shooting than to sit and visit with each other and enjoy such a wonderful repast! Cost will be $45 per person and I will be posting how to make your reservations for the pig roast after the first part of August!

Oh, now you've done it. Doing Geology Museum and precious metal factory tours. Dang! For a geologist, that is like dangling prime rib just outside the cage of a really hungry tiger!!

Sounds like you have a great meet up planned! Good job!

I know it's quite a distance for you and Miss Dottie to travel, but we would love to see you! It is over 1,600 miles from where our house is in Maryland to Rapid City and our plan right now is for DH to drive out there (with a friend of ours to help him drive) at the end of August! I will follow along at the beginning of September via plane.

Hope there is a scenic route because the High Plains are mind-numbing to cross. Unfortunately, we are under strict spending limits trying to stretch the money that we do have as I still haven't found employment. Therefore, travel is severly limited for the time being. Besides the shoot conflicts directly with our 40th Anniversary, which is a very special time for us. So, we won't be there this year. Y'all have a wonderful time!!

Limestone- there's NO real scenic route, unfortunately, that's why the plan includes 2 interstate-seasoned drivers!

AND....it's our 40th anniversary, too! We will miss you & Miss Dottie, but we'll surely keep you in our thoughts!

As of now, we haven't scheduled a time to go to Smoking Gun, the indoor range, but we can!

We don't have the cost yet to shoot at Buffalo Chip or the new range at Sturgis Guns. Taurus graciously covered our tab for the Saturday shoots for the past few years, but since they are getting ready to move from Miami to Georgia, they will not be with us this year. As soon as I find out, I will post and then y'all can decide if you want to shoot at Smoking Gun on Friday.

On Sunday, Sept 9, we do plan to go shoot at Beretta Rd again.

“…democratic socialism, the great utopia of the last few generations, is not only unachievable but that to strive for it produces something utterly different – the very destruction of freedom itself.
