Not today, but last Tuesday I made a grand 215 yard shot. Front double lung from the Savage .30/06. It laid down 35 yards from where I hit it and I put the next shot in it's throat to finish it. That was really unnecessary, but merciful. I wasn't sure if it was going to try to take off as I approached. He couldn't have. FWIW, dragging a 150 lb buck 6 1/2 months after L4-L5 Laminectomy and TLIF still is painful. By the time I had it gutted and dragged back out into the field my son had arrived with the 4x4.

I took my Ruger Hawkeye Compact in 7mm-08 and my Marlin 444 today. The Ruger shoots Federal Premium 140gr. Nosler ballistic tips very well so I was just verifying that it's still on the money. For the Marlin 444 it was the first time shooting it and I was very impressed with the way it shot Remington 300 gr SP ammo. Good 1.5" groups at 100 yards. I'll take that from a levergun all day long. Remington has greatly improved their Marlin rifles since their initial problems during the switch over. I couldn't be happier with this 444.

My son is home from Augusta for Thanksgiving so we made a trip to my club today. He brought his new CZ Scorpion and CZ SP01. Both are beautiful guns and the Scorpion is a blast to shoot.

I took along my SA 1911-A1 and S&W 620. Not surprisingly the S&W was spot on accurate shooting .38 Special in spite of me being the operator.

I had a serious issue with the SA 1911-A1 early on that required four hands to clear. One round of ball jammed in the chamber but I could not eject the magazine to clear the jammed round. Thankfully my son and I collaborated (safely) with me holding the slide to the rear while he pushed the mag. release and removed the magazine. Once the mag. was out I could then remove the round from the chamber which later fired as expected from a different mag. The mag. in the pistol when the jam occurred was a standard GI style 7 round 1911 magazine that I then set aside, probably from SA but not marked.

After that I used a Wilson Combat 8 round and two Brownell 8 round magazines and a seven round MecGar all with no problems. I only loaded six rounds per mag.

I did notice that several of the spent .45 casings were flattened on one side. Don't recall that happening before.

Actually it was yesterday, Saturday, that I went shooting. Me, my friend Steve and his brother visiting from Atlanta went to the club.

Steve built himself a AR15 A2? I think it is. Not a perfect replica but a very cool rifle anyway. It has 20" barrel, the triangle hand guard, 3 prong flash hider, fixed length stock. He did go with a more modern 1:7 twist barrel instead of the 1:12 barrel of the time. We had shot it a couple weeks ago with the iron sights and got it zeroed at 50yds. Just a couple of days ago he got the 4X scope that mounts on the carry handle and we took the rifle back to the range to get the scope zeroed. The scope is an inexpensive Barska replica and it was easy to zero and held zero for the 100 or so rounds we ran through it. The rifle is really nice and shoots very soft.

His brother brought his new a Kel-Tec CP33 with him.

The CP33 certainly is an interesting pistol! He has a red dot mounted on the pistol and it was very easy to shoot accurately. The trigger was very light and smooth. I still hate the size and shape of the grip on Kel-Tec's .22 pistols!

Lastly I brought 1 of my tried and true PT1911s. It ran great and both guys, with very little/no experience with a 1911, liked shooting it a lot.

That was my range day yesterday. Gotta love it!

PS: almost forgot that I ran my PSA complete rifle kit, no lower, for the 3rd time and it's running great! Very nice rifle.

I picked up my Ruger SR9 at the gun store and then used the range to shoot the SR9 and my Ruger .380. Both shot great. 12 rounds of SD loads Federal 90 gr JHP and 99 gr JHP. The 90 gr are what I keep in the gun. The SR9 was great. 7 yrds and 10 yrds. Just 100% perfect. Federal 115 fmj and my sd load Federal 124gr HST JHP, put about 50 rounds through it. Lots of fun. Had the range to myself, noon on Thursday

Went to the range today and shot conceal carry weapons - RM380, PT111G2, and Glock26. Also had a .22lr conversion for the Glock. First target was the 380 at 7y. Second pic has PT111G2 at 7y with 115g FMJ on top 115g JHP on the bottom. Haven't shot these in a while.

Planning to visit my FFL tomorrow. Looking forward to shooting a new Taurus 692 next weekend.

Revolver day for me. Shot 50 rounds of reloaded jacketed wadcutter 38s. Love my Taurus snub noses, two stage trigger is excellent.

I went for a little while yesterday and shot 100 rounds through my TX22 and 50 through my 605. I'm doing better with both.

I got out today for a 45 minute run. Brought the CZ83, the 605 and the Heritage Rough Rider. A lot of fun and learned that I need to back off a tad on the CSB-6 charge of the 357 magnum (ouch and some sign of overpressure) and that the 4 grains of HP 38 in the 38 Special pushing the 158 grain PFN makes a flash that a plane could land to... Need to research a powder with less lumens at the end of that 2" barrel!
