    I know the problem. It's a 9mm in a 1911. That's blasphemy! Of course it don't work. 1911s are for .45!

Took this little plinker (500 S&W) out and blew up some 2 liter soda bottles this afternoon.

Yep, I went to the range today. Like the OP, I shot the Security Six - my favorite 38/357. I bought it new in 1979 and it has tens of thousands of rounds through it. You could never tell it, though - it's as tight as it was brand new. Changed the factory grips to larger ones.

As far as accuracy - if you can hold it, it'll hit it. I woudn't swap this gem for any current production pistol.

well IF my fiber optic front sight comes in for my Tanfoglio 10 MM I will be taking it Wednesday for anoter range trip and to do final alignment of the rear sight.
already got it pretty much on target for the black front sight, so a couple of turns max should put me on target if it even needs that.
ordered the same height Fiber Optic as the stock sight.
of coure i can't just shoot a couple rounds so likely another 150 rounds or so and it should be good to go and i can move back to my more Sissy calibers to shoot.
I forgot about the Holidays and so the shipping is longer than normal.
If I don't get the sight by Wednesday I guess I will have to break down and take my old cheap furren made CZ 97BD--someone has to suffer I guess and it must be me?

My Security six I bought in 1978. It always had punishing recoil with hot .357s, so I preferred to shoot .38s in it, but it wasn't very accurate with .38s. I shoot wadcutters in my .38s. It also printed the .38s not only low, could handle that, but way to the left when the gun was sighted for .357s. I mean, I might could have handled the 3-4" benched groups at 25 yards if I could have zeroed the thing for .38s easily. Anyway, I traded it to a guy for a new Blackhawk, even swap, and that thing is a tack driver if ever there was. The Security Six was already getting loose on me. The Blackhawk is build like a bank vault, near indestructible.

So, after making that trade, I needed a 4" medium frame .357 for my collection. I bought a Rossi M971 and it was okay, broke a couple of firing pins, got a smith to install a Smith and Wesson pin on the hammer, then traded THAT one for a .45 Colt Blackhawk I wanted (and some money, of course). See, I have this thing for Blackhawks. Then, I found my 4" nickel Taurus 66 used for 197 dollars at a gun show. THAT thing is ACCURATE with either .38 or .357, 1" at 25 yards, and all it takes is six clicks in elevation to set up for either load. I've marked the settings on the sight so I won't forget. The Taurus might not be as strong a design, but it's a strong frame, very much on the S&W 686 size. My older 66 I bought later is K frame sized. The newer 66 has a larger frame and, in fact, will not fit in K frame holsters because of it.

The 4" Security Six was a might lighter, by about 4 ounces. The Rossi was lighter still. But, the 66 is strong and, above all, accurate. It's my keeper.

I'm glad you've had better luck with your Security Six. I read guys crying over the fact that the GP100 took its place. Well, the GP100 is significantly stronger. I'm guessing Ruger got tired of dealing with worn out Security Sixes. I mean, they were generally decent guns, stronger than a S&W K frame, better design, but I don't pine for my old Security Six. I'm perfectly happy with its replacement.

I did! Mostly just wanted to test some Blazer brass ammo in my PX4 before my training class next Saturday. Plus I did get a Talon grip for the PX4. I like this thing. I have had them on my 709 for several years. Looks like I'll have to order another 1 for my other PX4. Don't want it to feel left out!

Nope, this weekend didn't pan out as I'd like. Now it looks as if it won't be until Weds. before I can go.

My Security-Six shoots most anything. It keyholes wadcutters at less than 750 fps. Not sure why. Anything over 850 fps seems to be good.
I think it has a 1 in 18 and 3/4 twist which favors heavy slugs. I think Pythons are 1-14 which I think is a better all around twist.

I've run mostly .38 Specials through mine but never had a problem handling it with hot .357's.

    All the Best,

Sounds like you had a good time!
I took my new Canik TP9sa to the range and shot just under 100 rounds. I really like it!
