I was in the market for a .44 Magnum and have been tossing a coin whether to get a Taurus M44 or a S&W 629. Hmm, good reviews on the Taurus and a price under $500 before taxes. The main sticking point for me with the M44 are the ports. The last inch of the M44 isn't rifled, effectively making it a 3" revolver. The 629 has a great rep too and there's just something about a Smith. The big drawback is the price tag, $800 plus. Today I ran into a deal I couldn't pass up, a guy had a new 629 he hasn't even shot a box through yet and he decided he wanted to unload it. I obliged. The picture and a boring write up will be in a separate post in the Other Handguns forum.

Ordered a barrel extension and a Tandemkross muzzle brake for my GSG 1911-22. I got that modification itch over the weekend.

    Pictures at eleven.

No, thankfully it's not. Not that there aren't a lot of great straight walled cartridges for deer, but I like a choice. The lever action .30-30 had traditionally been the most popular deer rifle in PA., but it seems to me that is dying off along with the red plaid hunting crowd.
