    Must be why I don't own a .380.

    I don't carry a second gun!

If you mean buying a second gun, mine was a N-frame Smith and Wesson in .45Colt.

Energy matters for projectiles about ~2500fps. At handgun velocities, it's momentum that matters.

Energy aside, what matters is effectiveness for intended purpose. A 380 that penetrates around 12" and expands to 45 or greater caliber will be effective enough. Though there is no disputing 9mm or any other service caliber's superiority. Carry what works for you.

I can't help but laugh at charts. A 9mm has about 1/3 the energy of a .44 magnum.
But neither one slips into my front pocket. My TCP does, so it gets the honor.

    380ACP 95RNJ @955fps is rather pathetic from a 3-3/4" barrel.

I load my SD rounds with either a 90gn XTP, or 95gn FN coated hardcast. The XTP from a 2.7" barrel does 1006fps (energy=202). The 95FN even higher @1020fps (energy=220). Those are within standard SAAMI pressures.

    Agreed.

I typically conceal carry my Spectrum (because that is what it was made for, ya know) while my significant other carries a 1911 .45ACP. We view our carry situation - particularly when traveling - as: can one of us hold out long enough for the other to draw or get to a better position? While the Spectrum might not have the reputation or sheer stopping power of a larger caliber, it appears to adequately fulfill my needs at this time.

One hit from a .380 is much more devastating than a miss with a .44 magnum.

I'm not sure what point the OP it trying to make? If the point is, it's better use a more powerful cartage to defeat a bad guy.....then the 9mm would be better. And the 357 would be better than the 9mm, and the 30-06 would be better than the 357 and so on. I sure wouldn't want someone to point a .380 at me, even if I was 20' away.
If you don't feel comfortable carrying a .380, Great! carry something you do. Other folks may be carrying a .22 and be happy.
