    Russian TulAmmo

Picked up a 9mm box of TulAmmo at my local Wal-Mart today, for only $9.47 (50). Does anyone have any experience with this ammo? Never seen it before, but will fire it next week.

The Tula ammo sounds like a good deal. If your buying Russian surplus ammuntion you may want to avoid Wolf ammunition. My friend bought some for his PT92 and it caused jamming
issues. Some of it also had weak powder charges and we were afraid he was going to have a squib in his barrel. He will never buy anymore Wolf 9MM after that experience.

Wolf is not surplus ammo; it is new manufacture.

FWIW, I have not experience any "weak" powder charges.

Mea culpa. I assumed it was surplus ammunition because my friend said he bought it in bulk.
Thank you for setting me straight. The shooting problems were real though, I witnessed that
myself. He may have gotten a bad box of ammo, no manufactuer is perfect.

no exp with tula, it's probably along the same lines as wolf.

my advice is if you can't get brass for 9.50 a box.. then see if you can find some cci blazer, it's alumium cased, can't reload it, but i've never had a problem with it and i feel comfortable shooting it in any gun.

i'll only feed wolf to my hi-point.

also although wolf coats their cases with either lacquer or poly being that it's steal it's more likely to rust.. brass can corrode also and even aluminum.. but i was just going though my ammo stash the other day and had a few rounds of wolf left.. 2 of them had rust starting on the case.

probably a non issue for most people but long term storage might be problematic compared ot traditional brass or cci blazer.
If you can't shoot well, shoot often.

    Re: Russian TulAmmo

Tula is the same as Wolfe, Wolfe is the importers name and the manufacture is Tula on the steel cased ammo. For the past two years or longer, the Tula has been polymer coated instead of laquer coated which has eliminated some jamming problems caused from the build up of laquer in the chambers. About the only thing I have ever noticed is the primer shells are a little on the hard side, and there are light primer strikes with a striker fired pistol from time to time. It is ok ammo but as general practice, I only fire it in my Commie made guns, AKs primarily. I have shot some pistol ammo, probably about 5 boxs total and had two misfires, and no jams. I can usually scrounge brass cased ammo for the same price.

Noticed the Tula ammo at my local Walmart also. Picked-up a box of 40cal. and ran it through my 24/7 DS with no problems. Will try 9mm on my next trip to range. Looks like Walmart is replacing the Federal w/ Tula.

    Too bad!

I generally don't buy Russian Pistol Ammunition, but I've not had problems with it when I have used it. Just not my prefered range food for my pistols.

Don't mind running Russian Ammunition thru my Egyptian AKM, Chinese SKS, and Ruger Scout Mini-14. As these are Military Designs they are more tolerant of it.
