    Re: Russian TulAmmo

I kind of find it amazing that Wally world would select to sell a Russian brand of ammo. Hell the best ammo they sold was RWS at about $12 a box of 50. Now that is excellent ammo in that it isn't tuned down like the Federals they sell, 124 gr, shoots clean and is very accurate. I was told by the two local Walmarts in my area that no one will buy it say it is foreign made, go figure since it is rated one of the best ammo makers on the planet. Here it seems the Federals an Remington both are all they can sell. Even Federal doesn't list the stuff they sell at Walmart.

    Re: Russian TulAmmo

i bought a 500round of 55 gr 5.56 er .223 from CTD not too long ago.

bad powder that looked like it had dirt in it and underpowered to the point only about two rounds of three would cycle the AR-15.

another weird thing after a couple rounds were fired the barrel got really hot---far hotter than normal ammo.

i pulled the bullets , dumped all the contaminated powder and reloaded the remaining rounds with my off the shelf powder and they all shot fine.

i may have just been unlucky. though i have been shooting russian made wolf brown bear and what not for decades and never ran across any that didn't have enough go to cycle the rifle.

also MV was down around 2000fps??

    lot 4-p715

not ain't in any hurry to buy more that is for sure.

    Re: Russian TulAmmo

sounds like the ammo was loaded high on phosphates, REALLY cheap ammo is loaded high with it.. it burns real hot, notice a lot of fire at the muzzle? or grey residue on the muzzle end?

they're messy and they heat your barrel up really quick.

i dont know if thats the case with tula but im just saying thats what it sounds like from what you said.

    Re: Russian TulAmmo

yep that is a good deduction. lots of muzzle flash lots of heat. very low muzzle velocity and pressure.

    some white/light gray residue.

i don't think ALL tula is this bad. but they have shipped some very bad batches at times though.

one of my buddies got some in 7.62x39 that had similar problems in his ar-15. he thought it was a problem with his rifle. i told him to try the ammo in his SKS and it started short stroking too!

check over at CTD they do have reviews of this ammo some of them pretty scathing!

I find this very interesting considering .45 acp in the Houston area is getting very very expensive. I think I might pick up a box or two of this Tula and see what it can do and how dirty the gun is after. Has anyone fired it through a 1911?

    Re: Russian TulAmmo

Went to the range today with my 600 rounds or TULA. Between my son and I we shot it all and 200 rounds of Federal. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL! Yes gun is filthy but that is to be expected. I will be buying more.
On another note out of about 200 rounds I fired of Remington golden bullet, 22lr had around 20 ftf's ftl's....wont be buying them again

    Re: Russian TulAmmo

Shot 50 Rounds of .45 TulAmmo yesterday.

Not one issue and it didn't seem to be any more dirty than usual.
