Hornady Critical Defense at the range

A few days ago, I was at the range and decided to shoot some of my critical defense ammo, which is Hornady Critical Defense, in both my TCP (.380) and PT111 Millennium G2 (9mm). After shooting the 9mm, I ran some normal target ammo (Winchester white box), and it was very dirty afterwards. With the TCP, which is my carry weapon, I shot 3 magazines of Critical Defense (19 rounds total). After running a Bore Snake through the barrel a couple of times, I looked down inside the weapon, and it was amazingly clean, around the feed ramp, magazine, etc. It normally gets very dirty with target ammo. Has anyone else noticed that Hornady Critical Defense runs fairly cleanly? I wondered, because I hadn't heard that elsewhere.

isnt the critical defense low flash? probably related - low flash from complete/efficient combustion would probably also cause low fouling/ash

    just my thoughts!

Yes, I have been told, that the Critical Defense is low flash and cleaner burning.

    the website says :
    • Clean burning and efficient propellants reduce recoil in lightweight handguns, and perform consistently at all temperatures.
    • Minimal muzzle flash protects night vision.
I bought a box for my 1911 which is my carry weapon. I will probably pick up a box for my PT-111 G2 when I get my holster.

Yes, I did see what was on their web site, I was just wondering if anyone else had any personal experience with it (or if I was just crazy...lol). I do know that it cycles through both of my guns flawlessly. Every once in a while, I like to shoot some of my SD ammo, just for the real-world experience, and for the confidence that it works.

I haven't shot any of it yet, although I know I should so I know how it shoots. I probably will next trip out to the range. I will let you know how it does for me.

It is what I use also in my PT809 and my PT111 G2. I haven't shot enough of it to notice that it is cleaner. I use a box every six months just to keep it fresh.

The only Critical Defense I have is in my wife's .38 night stand revolver and have not shot any of it.

In my semi-auto carry ammo, I only shoot enough to insure the self defense ammo feeds and cycles.

like many of the new carry ammos, they are designed with the most modern propellants and usually have incorporated low flash/
low recoiling powders that are selected for more uniform burn rates in shorter barreled guns.
also usually in full house self defense/hunting loadings they burn cleaner than light loaded range loads as well.

Not only Critical Defense/Duty, but in my experience ALL of Hornady's offerings are clean-burning.
On the other hand, every time I run a box of WWB or UMC through my piece, I feel like I need to throw it in the dishwasher when I get home, and take a shower myself.
