A long, great read, even (or maybe especially) for Texans. Thanks for posting!

It was a long read, but very interesting.

I always find it comical when people around here want authentic Mexican food, not realizing how bland it is, compared to Tex-Mex. On behalf of food lovers everywhere, thank y'all for sharing your good stuff with the rest of us!

And oh, sorry, I put beans in my chili!

There is no real Mexican food any more than there is real American food, it changes from region to region just as food does here in the USA

Eating Mexican food in Mexico was disappointing. Pretty much no flavor or spice. Tex-Mex is definitely preferable.

Is there an official Texas chili recipe?

I make the best venison chili, AT LEAST, in Colorado county! Yeah, don't mess with Texas!

BTW, beans just flavor the gas produced by the chili, probably why so many don't like beans in their chili.

the author was pretty long winded for saying virtually nothing. It read more like an all out assault on the American Cheese Council than it was about Chili or brisket. Tex-Mex is basically Mexican inspired food with a Texas flare. I also question his credentials writing for an Austin based periodical. His diatribe about starting in Cali and moving across and down into the Rio Grande Valley was hogwash. Who CARES? If you want real Texas food, Start with Whataburger. Want a sweet dessert? Go with Blue Bell Ice cream. Want to wash it down? Dr Pepper if you're driving and Shiner if you're not. It doesn't get any easier.

Only thing I can eat at Whattaburger is the salads, decent salads. I can't eat Blue Bell anymore, either. Danged type 2 diabetes. I'll just stick to my chili, thanks.

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

The 2nd amendment is not about hunting or shooting sports, it is about the citizens of this country having the means to protect themselves and the states from the tyranny, oppression, and misery of an over powering government. Modern rifles are a means for the citizens to stand up to an over powering government.
