It's not just bars. There are a lot of the younger crowd that goes to privates events at someone's house or apartment where it's like standing room only sometimes. Been there and done that myself when I was younger, it's still a thing. As Jeff Foxworthy once said, it's not a really good party until the cops are called at least twice.

One of the LEO's I talked to said he communicates with other LEO's from other cities in the state, and one of them had to arrest a protester who went from peacefully protesting to vandalizing something. After they arrested them, they fasked him if he had covid, and he said no. They found out however that he had been tested + for covid recently (because if you test + the state tells the police here if they have to have an official interaction with you, not a violation of hippa) She asked the guy "Aren't you supposed to be quarantining at home?" and his response was "I don't give a hoot!" (quote cleaned up due to forum rules) She asked him if he had told his friends he was hanging out with at the protest and he said no.
Yeaaah. That did happen. Stupidity is not partisan.

I don't think that I implied that this kind of behavior is limited to one political side or the other. It's quite possible one of the counter protesters could've also been spreading it (knowingly or unknowingly) if they had it. Even supposing none of the counter protesters had it, choosing to get face to face in a shouting match with a protester who happens to be infected. is a good way to get it and spread it to others. If someone gets into a pigpen and wrestles a pig both end up getting dirty. As for as the guy who was arrested, his politics wasn't the issue for me but rather that he didn't care if he infected other people, regardless of whether they were his friends or not. When I was an LEO, I occasionally was aware of similar behavior in a few people who had AIDS.

I think it is strange that nobody blames the all of the protesters that were shoulder to shoulder for the new out break of the virus. At least not on the news, that timing seems to be in line with the current out break of the virus.

Lubbock had a one day, fairly peaceful protest of a hundred people who didn't get out in the streets. One idiot brought a AR 15 slung over his shoulder. Still, after the youth bars re-opening around the campus, we have averaged 150 new cases per day. Prior to the bars reopening, we were averaging about 6 new cases a day. So, yes, the bars for the younger folks have spiked the cases. Not all bars were guilty in spreading the virus. The owner of the bar I go to did a good job of social distancing patrons and was also a non smoking bar and had a patio area I enjoyed. His baristas sanitized tables after patrons left, had hand sanitizer stations and proper distancing. I wish Abbot had just left it to the TABC to only close bars not adhering to the rules, instead of all the bars.
