Well the Corona Virus is starting to get personal

Spoke with a friend today back in MA. She told me her cousin, in his early 30's (no preexisting conditions just in case your wondering) is currently in a medically induced coma on a ventilator due to the virus. Been like that for 3 days now, they can't seem to get his oxygen levels back up to where they need to be. He's young and otherwise healthy though, so he'll probably beat it (fingers crossed). These are the kind of stories you rarely hear with this virus though, as mostly it's just numbers being thrown at you. If he lives, he'll go in the recovered bin, but I thought it worth mentioning that this is why ventilators are so important to defeat this thing, and while it may be killing mostly older people, it can still put forth quite the challenge on the younger ones and lot's of people who have recovered from this thing had a real rough go of it. She sent this video to me, thought I would share it as it gives a good breakdown of how this virus is attacking people, and why the need for ventilators is so high.

I would question the "no-preexisting conditions", more then likely there was a previously undetected condition and barring that there is a genetic predisposition that causes those who are "otherwise healthy" to be more harshly affected by a given virus or disease that has yet to be understood.

Either way, sorry to hear about your friends cousin and hope he recovers

Hope that most all of the people who catch the virus will recover.

I saw somewhere that GM, Ford, and even Tesla were talking about re-tooling some production lines to make more ventilators. I don't know what happened to that discussion though, like most things brought up by the media, you hear about it one day, then never again.

This man was in a similar situation and was given a drug not generally used for this type of virus, but it worked. Perhaps this could help your friends relative if they knew about it?

I heard the same thing but think about it, ventilators cost $20,000 -$25,000. What company is going to invest in retooling to make ventilators without having a contract that xxxx numbers of ventilators will be bought from them ?

Gee, I don't know, a company that maybe puts their bottom line below getting ventilators out to the hospitals? Yeah, I know....but at least it's worth thinking that maybe some company would take it on.

Well, I'm screwed. I have most of those symptoms every morning that I wake up. That's the good news, though. So far, every morning I HAVE awakened....so far.

Say what you will about Tesla but they purchased some available ventilators and are bringing them to the US.

Do not have a Tesla and never plan on owning one but sure was nice of them to use their buying power and put to good use.

I am sure some will be angered by this but most of them are going to CA.

Here's another healthy 25 year old man at death's door. They have received Gilead's experimental drug ...Remdesivir to try and get him past the crisis.

Some good news that they are working to see if two patients can share a ventilator.
