    Question COVID-19- Are You Lucky?

So we are here in Levy County, Florida, and as of this morning there have been no cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in our county, let alone on our little island three miles out in the Gulf. We are still talking this situation quite seriously given our occupation, (Rental Managers of a 60 unit vacation condominium complex). This time of year we are fortunate to be surrounded by long term “snowbirds” all of whom have been here for a couple of months- plenty of time to show symptoms. I call this our little bubble of healthy people.

Our island for the most part is subject to the State mandated social separation policies and the influx of day trippers is slowing as a consequence of bar and restaurant restrictions. At the moment we certainly must be considered fortunate from an exposure standpoint.

If we are lucky enough to emerge from the pandemic uninfected, but lacking the antibodies of the survivors, will we live in constant concern until a proven vaccine is available? Probably. This certainly is not the same as sending Johnny down to Jimmy’s house to catch his chicken pox, but it begs the question “who are the really lucky ones?”

We have a few cases here in Brevard Co. Don't know for sure how many. I'm still going to work every day. CT scan this afternoon. Gun club is still open. I rarely go to restaurants so that aspect hasn't bothered me. Mostly just the pain in the neck with grocery stores!

So am I lucky? Yeah I think I'm doing ok for the time being. I say for the time being as I do have concerns with how far the gov't is going to "test" while using this virus as their excuse.

I think we may have 1 or 2 cases here in our county. But, being attached at the hip to Dallas County Texas we also know that "They do walk among us". Therefore the reported numbers are feel good numbers, the unknown/untested but carrier numbers are...well unknown.

We had one case in our county and he's also the only reported death in the state, last I heard anyway. He was originally from New Jersey and five members of his family that still lived in New Jersey were also positive. Yesterday they reported that two other family members also died from the virus.

Fortunitely you don't have to worry about spring breakers in your area like we do up north. The county I live in is a rural county with lower population than the rest of the state. That didn't stop us from getting a case though when allegedly (according to the reporting) a 20 yr old male a few days ago came back from Florida and got sick, so they tested him. Now thanks to him anyone who came in contact with him is in potential danger.

Disclaimer, the guy interviewed in the link below is not the guy I just referenced, merely an example or extreme irresponsibility.

With forms of testing and more drive thru testing sites springing up daily, we will see the number of new cases take a big jump. My thoughts this morning were about just how fast this thing spread and continues to spread.

As the first known case in the USA was brought in the middle of January, that would have been a great time to impose all of the social distancing and restrictions we currently have in place. Sadly, the American people and Politicians would have never gone for it without some carnage occurring first. A lot of them had to be run off of the beaches yesterday.

A week ago yesterday, I was at a grand daughters track meet in a small town of Seminole Texas. Her track coach was making some corona virus jokes. Grand daughter is from a town of 12,000 just 30 miles west of Lubbock.

On Tuesday, we, Lubbock has it's first two known cases of the virus discovered. On Wednesday, Levelland had it's first known case, so a small town of 12,000 really had no advantage in being small compared to a metro population of 330,000 people just 30 miles away.

Cooprcdrkey, I don't want to cause concern about your island protectiveness, but you do receive supplies on the island, an most likely they aren't delivered by drones in boxes that were sanitized before being sent.

My wife is starting to see some front line panic finally. I really haven't displayed any panic from my part. I haven't told her about all the non perishable foods and other items I've bought starting three weeks ago, other than her seeing the two months supply of dog food I had bought a week ago. I finished up the last of my purchases yesterday by getting a couple of more propane cylinders.
WWife left the house at 6 this morning to get gas and avoid the rush at the supermarket. She came home and reported she had not avoided the rush, parking lot full, meat isles empty except for bacon, which she got and another dozen and a half eggs, loaf of bread and a few more items. TP isle was empty but had some paper towels, kind of wish she had gotten some while she was there, but we have plenty.

Last night, she spoke of a lady at work being out of toilet paper. I told her I felt we could spare eight rolls (mega rolls), and showed her what I had. She did complain that they were the generic brand, not Charmin and asked why I got them. I explained I was at the market getting other items last week, and there were only two packages of TP left, so I took one and left the other which a lady grabbed it before I even put my package in the basket. Anyhow, after my offer to give that package away, my wife said she was beginning to feel like a hoarder and would keep trying to find some for her friend first.

Today is too cool to work in the yard, so I'll put a new trigger assembly in a Saiga .223 I've been putting off for 3 months, clean all my end of the world guns, and finish smoking four net pounds of Jerky.

There are a few cases up around Birmingham and Montgomery, we had our first case in Mobile show up yesterday- was a young child. The local health dept is expecting more. They are warning us to not go out in public unless it is absolutely necessary. I had a dr apt Monday, and have not been out of the house since. I'm just gonna sit tight and ride this thing out. I do not have another apt til April 2.

Agatha doesn't want me to go out in public because I am old and in poor health (she says).
So....I'll just sit here and watch Star Wars cartoons, eat popcorn, and wait on my Trump cks. If I run out of popcorn- I'll send her to the $ store.

I bought gas a couple of days ago without a rush or anything. No parking lot full at the grocery store. I live just outside of a town of 6,000, about fifteen miles from Lubbock. No cases of the virus locally yet, and I pray we never see any. Thing about the grocery store according to my wife and our friends and neighbors, are the same as everywhere else. Sparse to empty shelves. I can’t help but think hoarders are coming here from Lubbock and other outlying towns for items they aren’t finding at home. Wish people would just calm down and shop as they normally would. Apparently it ain’t going to happen.

Analyses are being performed to plot the spread of the virus correlated to climate temperature bands:

As we have already seen, black markets are emerging in just about every consumable. It's not limited to happening where two brothers go around and buy up all the hand sanitizer.

As with the .22 shortage for a couple of years, I found out that store managers at some big box stores in outlying towns were intercepting the .22 ammo and it never made it to the counters, and I also believe a lot of ammo distributors did the same thing.

I know some grocery store managers I think would be capable of taking some quick profits.

Also, some people feel guilty to ever talk to their friends or neighbors about their stocking up or preparing for something. Not a great idea to talk about what you have around friends or neighbors anyhow. Whose door are they going to come to when they have a need? Will they take "No" for an answer, or will someone get shot. I imagine we would all be surprised to see how much stuff our friends and neighbors have put back. They would be surprised to see what I've put back.
