If I was driving thru NY I would not remove my gun unless I exited the vehicle for some reason. Agree with the other posters on this subject re: any vehicle you do NOT legally own, though.

This not exactly true. Because of the mobile nature of vehicles the courts have already decided that they do not have the same kinds of search freedoms that fixed-placed homes do. I would have to do some digging, but the case I remember as setting precedent was one involving an RV. You may be living in it, but it is still mobile, and hence has less privacy attached to it.......
