    CHL Classes Cost ??

What did you pay for your CHL ?? I have a chance to take it in Aug but i get an email Stating that the Class is $135.00 plus an additional $140.00 registration fee when you file for your license with the State of Texas. I'm sorry i guess i'm way behind on info but i thought the avaerage cost from A-Z was approx . $140.00 - $165.00 total for class and license . Am i way off here and under wrong info ??

Instructors can charge just about anything they want. $140 for a class is pretty average though. And the state wants $140 for your first time around. I renewed recently, and the instructor was charging $75 for first timers, he's since gone up to $90. Of course renewals are less for both.

wow, that seems steep to me. I just got mine here in Iowa and the class was $50 and the 5 year permit was $50 so a total of $100 good for 5 years.

They'll take a check or MO if you send it in with your packet. You can pay online with a card if you apply there first. I recommend that route, because they make it so easy. The process has been greatly streamlined, and much less complicated.

Smokes got it! The cost you outlined sounds ball park. I would however shop around a bit the instructors are pretty free to charge what they want, there are some retired guys who teach more for the fun than the money.

All in all it cost me right around $250 here in Kansas at the start of 2011. $90 was for the 8 hour class, and that was about the average I had seen.
