Not true. Michigan requires 3 hours of review of classroom materials and 1 hour of range time in the 6 months prior to renewal. Reference 28.425l para. 8 of the Michigan Code.

Perhaps someone missed their 3 hours of review.

I filed for the renewal this morning for another four years of security. Had about 14 people in the class.

ILLinois...I could easily become a Hoosier also.

It might be one answer to relocating to a more free, less taxed state and still have my wife and I still working out of ILLinois. I am certain that they would find ways to empty my wallet however.

My South Carolina permit is still good until 2021.....first time having one here so I don't know what the renewal process takes yet. I'll cross that bridge as I get closer to renewal time.

One thing is that I have a buddy in Indiana who has his permit there but when he came to visit he checked and was not allowed to carry in South Carolina because Indiana did not meet South Carolina's training requirement. But I could carry in Indiana...at least the last time I checked which has been a few years. I wish this country would treat concealed carry like a driver's license (or marriage license) so that a license from one state would be good in all of them.

My Illinois permit doesn't work in SC either and our state has two eight hour classes (one day is waived if the requester has a DD 214) plus a live fire exercise that is scored. I doubt it's a training requirement thing, maybe a reciprocity deal although I don't recall any other state's permit that they recognize. When I drove over the border from NC I had to keep my loaded pistol in the console of the vehicle.

If you're going to get an out of state license, I think Virginia gives you the most reciprocal states. And, I'm kinda glad in Texas we don't have to do anything but send in our money and get a new license in the mail.

You all are making us poor left state guys jealous. I have an appointment for my 4 hour CCW renewal class next month. No state is less gun friendly even for honest law abiding folks.

Actually, if memory serves my last renewal worked that way. They electronically pulled my DL photo and put that on my CCW.

But our permits last four years, and there's in-person training and shooting required for every renewal.

Had my picture taken for my CHL after the class in 2011. I was worn out and it showed. They used this picture and used the same picture on the renewal license. When I received by Security Officer Registration, I was required to get a new photo. Did they use that after I paid for it? Nope. They used my driver's license photo.

It's all relative to what you've experienced. I don't know what state you're in, but for example people in Illinois might think they live in an extreme anti CCW state until they experience a state with "may issue" CCW. Even if you do happen to get a license in those states, it might not be valid in some major city (like NYC) where you might need CC the most.

I hear the worst state for legal CC is Hawaii.
