Concealed carry ammo for PT 111 G2

    Hey all,

I recently have received my CCL and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good JHP bullet that is extremely reliable for a Taurus PT 111 G2? I am in need of a bullet that will be fired every single time because my life may one day depend on it. I recently purchased 2 different boxes of JHP, one being a Federal Premium Hydra Shok 150 grain, the other a Winchester 147 grain. Does anyone have experience with these 2 loads and know if they are reliable? Was also wondering if these 2 loads would be too heavy for a self defense round coming out of a 3.2 inch barrel handgun?

I am a shotgun shooter through and through and can shoot skeet with my eyes closed but when it comes to handguns I don't know much more than the basics, so I hope these questions are not too stupid.

    Thanks for the help

I recommend Hornady Critical Defense. It cycles reliably, even in my one hollowpoint finicky semi-auto.

Welcome from S Florida. I second Smokewagon, Hornady Critical Defense in ALL my self defense handguns. They have been 100% reliable and yet are reasonably priced.

I'm no expert but I think the 124 grain Federal HST is perfect for the 3.2" barrel according to my local gun store and range. But like others have said Hornady critical defense is good also. I have tried the sig sauer elite jhp and they run with 100% reliability and they are the cheapest self defense ammo I've seen at only $12 per box of 20. The Federal HST run about $28 for 20 and the hornady run about $25 for 20. Prices just depend on where you live though.

according to all the short barrel tests ive seen - the 124 and 147 hst are about ideal. standard pressure.

I'm a fan of the Speer Gold dots myself. Less expensive and I've never had a single issue with them. I don't know how much experience you've had but since no one has mentioned it be sure to fire a couple of boxes at targets. You need to be sure it will fire reliably in YOUR gun, not someone elses G2.

Yet another vote for Hornady Critical Defense. I've shot lots of it in my PT111 with no issues of any kind.
