Does Your Body Shape Make IWB/OWB Rather Difficult Or Awkward?

I've put on a few pounds. Ankle carry is looking better all the time. I've stepped up my exercise regimen so that I can get back to "comfortable carry"? Anyone else afflicted by this syndrome? Maybe I'll start a support group!

A good holster makes all the difference for me. I prefer owb, but have iwb for most of the same guns I carry that work well and are reasonably comfortable. I haven't tried an ankle carry, but am considering it for dress slacks.

A love handle or 'dunlap' (which forms when your belly has done lapped over your belt) has been known to get in the way a mite when carrying IWB.

Ankle carry is great if you sit all the time but the next best thing to being unarmed if you are standing up.

The ankle is about as far as you can get from your hand without leaving the body and how are you supposed to draw it? You choices are hop on 1 foot or take a knee. Both choices are slow, awkward and will draw attention.

I used to use IWB but have found that OWB with a good pancake holster conceals better and is much more comfortable for carry.

I haven't heard many people say "I've put on a few pounds, but touching my toes has gotten so much easier!" Something to think about regarding ankle carry.

I'm OWB almost all the time, personally.

Last year, I did not feel comfortable at all with IWB. This year, after having lost 40+ pounds, I find it much easier, and I enjoy the ability to conceal my bigger pistols. So I do believe it makes quite a bit of difference.

My body shape makes it awkward for me to do anything.
I carry my S&W 642 IWB crossdraw and everything else OWB crossdraw. Among the reasons why, the gun is closer to my hand that way. Whenever I leave my house I am on one of my mobility scooters and my hands are on the tiller (handlebars) just inches away.

My body shape DOES make IWB difficult, so I use either a cross draw OWB, or a 4 o'clock OWB, using various holsters. I am also known to use a chest pull holster in many instances for comfort. YMMV.

I'm not there yet, but if you figure out a way to draw your pistol from an ankle holster while seated in a vehicle, without first taking yoga classes, please post it... I would definitely be fascinated and impressed.

Like others, I prefer crossdraw both IWB and OWB, even though I can still look down and see my feet.

But I'm betting there are a number of members who have found themselves in a similar predicament and can provide numerous solutions.
