    Cleaning copper

I was recently inspecting my 24/7 barrel and noticed a little copper inside. I'm at 1700 rds, and I clean it every time I shoot, using Hoppe's #9 and Break Free. I was wondering what anyone can recommend as a copper cleaner. And also, how often should I clean out the copper buildup? Thanks for any advice!

"Sweets 7.62" will do a good job, if you can get past the smell. I think it was designed for the rifle bore, but it works in handguns.

    Re: Cleaning copper

I regularly use Noxon7 Metal Polish/Cleaner (available at any well stocked hardware store) on a thick Patch over a nylon Bore Brush, after using a general solvent. Noxon7 has some sort of creamed ammonia in it that easily removes Copper and Lead. The plated bullets I use for reloading will leave a layer of Copper in the bore after a few hundred rounds if I don't keep on it.
