I would just have left it alone, ammo and distance could account for the high shooting. I have many pistols shooting high, from 50ft out to 50yds, just an inch or so and most ammo flattens out at 200yds. Just a friendly info-you and also JMO

i just bought my ranch hand 357 right out of box 20 yards shoots 14 inchs over target im sending mine to rossi so they can fix the sights i ajusted the sights down to max still 14 inchs over
I had to cut a slot in tge bottom of the rear of the rear sight so it would sit lower. Now it shoots to the POA on my 45lc RH.
Cheers,
Mad

Wow. Amazing set up
Dyin ain't much of a livin' boy.....
I filed a slot in mine down to the bottom of where it dishes out in the front. I then cut the Buckhorn down to make the slot shorter and had to file the top of the elevator down so it would not get in the way of the sight picture. Mine was shooting about 18 inches high until I did this now at 25 yards it shoots POI. I will get a fiber optic front sight for it next month. Mine is in 45 Colt. I did not want to mess with a front sight now because I am going to use it for some hunting applications. I made a sling that goes around my neck and holding it out on the wrist with one hand and the forearm on with the other is real steady. I added a magazine swivel mount from Uncle Mikes for trhe sling swivel. I have had it about a week shot it a couple of times getting it sighted in before and after the rear sight work. I like it.
Nice Rifle.
