I have been having a serious problem with armadillos tilling up my back yard. I tried shooting one with a 22 revolver, using shorts so my neighbors wouldnt complain, and watched him jump every time I hit him, but he still walked off.

I am too close to use standard 38 or 357 ammo, because of the noise and possible over penetration.

So I decided to make up some low power 38's. What I settled on was some 150g round nose lead bullets with enough w231 to get 700fps from the 16" r92 barrel.

Then, to keep from having to stay up all night watching for the critter, i rigged up a motion detector with a remote light and clamped it to the rail on my back porch. I pointed the light at my window so it would wake me when activated.

Surely enough, the next night, the motion detector activated, I got up and got my r92 and flashlight and was able to take him out first shot. The noise was very light but the bullet did the job. It made a 3" bruise at the entry point and didn't exit.

After examining the armadillo, I saw the spots on his scaly skin where I hit him with the 22.

That was a couple weeks ago. Now his brother is back, so I will have to repeat the process.

I had another one early tonight but he vanished before I could grab my rifle.
