I understand your feelings since when we pay for something we expect it to work correctly.
The sad fact of life is that anything a person machines or assembles is subject to errors now and then.
We've been to the range with the Ranch Hand a total of four times. We put 50 rounds through it on the previous three occasions. Today we put 25 rounds through it.
I operated the lever and ejected the last of 5 spent shelves. So far all normal. After I closed the port the hammer would not drop. The hammer remains in the far back position. I changed the safety and still it would not move.
So it's off to my LGS tomorrow, after work, and see if they can be of help. If not it goes back to Rossi for repair. What's disappointing is only 175 rounds. It happens, but disapointing no less.

The Government is not the cure, it is the disease!
I personally wouldn't even let the LGS touch it. You haven't had it that long, get some use out of that warranty. Rossi should ship it back and forth for free since you haven't held it for over a year yet. If the Ranch Hand needs parts for it, chances are they can't retrieve them from Rossi much like trying to get a Taurus fixed.

I have a deep appreciation of what this country is and what the American people are capable of. This is not a setback. This is a challenge and believe me, the American people are up to the challenge,...." -Glenn Beck
I bought the Rossi 92 lever action, got home and cleaned it.. I then loaded it up and cycled the first five (dummy rounds not snap caps) though it with out problem then had a problem getting the last five to load. Now keep in mind I had never fired this gun, so I called Rossi, they picked up the gun that afternoon. I got the gun back in 7 business days then put a 1000 rounds through it at which point I had my gun smith go through the gun setting up as per Steve Gunz DVD instructions and parts added. Since then it has been flawless and I've easily put 2000 more rounds through it since then mostly 45LC black powder loads also.

Owning a gun doesn’t make you any more an armed citizen than owning a guitar
makes you a musician.
Well got some good news! The weapon is fixed!
I brought it to my LGS, where I purchased it. They also offer, as part of the purchase, a lifetime guarentee in addition to the manufacturer's warranty. They took care of it on the spot. There was a small piece of milling/filing scrap that got into the trigger/tang/hammer assembly (for lack of a better word). Once removed all functions properly. The man who worked on it is a qualified gunsmith.
My wife will be happy and we'll be back at the range this weekend.
Though I can get a $20 savings from buying from one of the big-boxes I would not have been able to get the customer service I received at my LGS.
There is something to be said for personal service. Glad everything worked out for you.
Always remember to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle your targets

About me - I take very little seriously especially myself.
Ignorance is the lack of knowledge. Stupid is the refusal to do anything about it.
Great news, rangefinder!![]()
