Taurus 62 .22 rifle - reliability issues

I have a Taurus 62 pump-action .22, and it generally works alright. I've had a few problems with jams, but nothing consistent. The empty shell will extract, but not eject, and when the action comes back forward, it gets stuck. This happens once every 20 rounds or so firing normally, but when I hold down the trigger and try to slam-fire, it jams nearly every time.

Does anyone have experience with this rifle? Any ideas on what I can do to clean it up and get it to function better?

I have one, they really need to be kept clean, and I wouldn't slam fire them. Mine is 30 years old, probably 1,000 rounds through it, and it still is tight to work the action, and the elevator really needs to be kept clean, and the action freshly but lightly oiled each time I take it out, which it is now my oldest sons and he nor his boys will shoot it. I loved the little gun, but my son thinks it is dangerous, probably because when he was 9 he shot a hole in the roof of my K-5 Blazer. He was just a little young to get the full understanding of an exposed hammer.

Why is it you won't slam-fire it? I participate in cowboy action shoots occasionally, and being able to slam-fire could really shave my times down if I get good at it...

Slam firing just puts a lot of stress on a lot of intricate parts. It's a .22, not a 12 guage model 97 Trench gun.

I think the elevator is spring operated, and if it gets the least bit sticky, will not keep up with the slam fire exercise. It is a fairly light spring that operates the elevator.

I have a similar problem with mine, also the mag tube comes out, anyone know a way to fix this as well?

Crimp the end of the magazine very slightly where the tube inserts, go easy on this and it will tighten the friction on the tube.

My oldest son lost his, and I had to order another. We have the short gallery model and had to cut the tube down some.

ok, thanks, I didnt know if I needed a replacement spring, or something else
