Bent front sight on Rossi R92: Fix it or leave it alone

The front sight on my Rossi R92 is curved to the left and the sight base is slightly right from center of the barrel. Using my laser boresighter it seems to be sighted in correctly. It's seems like Rossi bent the sight to zero it in rather than following the instructions in the manual and tapping the sight with a plastic hammer to zero.

Shall I attempt to straighten the sight or will I risk snapping it off? I kind of bugs me that it is bent but it would bug me worse if I snapped it off and then buggered up my barrel trying to install a new sight. I'll probably call Rossi about this if I can get them to answer the phone.

    Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken the front sight can be moved with tap using a brass punch. Mine can be adjusted for wind-age with a tap or two. As for being bent you could call Rossi to send it to them for repair or for a new front sight.

Yes it can be moved according to the manual. I'm wondering how easy it is to remove completely and put in a new one assuming Rossi will mail one to me.

    I'd contact Rossi about it.

Will do, thanks. Hopefully contacting Rossi is as easy as contacting Taurus.

Are there any aftermarket sights that are easy to install?

Sure Hammick check out some of these http://store.stevesgunz.com/index.ph...mjrejgp12m66j1 He also offers a metal replacement for the plastic magazine follower, reduced spring as well as a DVD with what he suggests to improve the Rossi R92 line. I've done much of it to mine and it has improved the smoothness of the guns operation. I have not modified my sights however as mine work perfectly.

Re: Bent front sight on Rossi R92: Fix it or leave it alone

Thanks Joecil. I have heard about his r92 action jobs. Didn't know he had so many sight options.

I spoke with Rossi yesterday and the nice lady said she was going to send me a new front sight when they get them into the parts inventory. She offered to pay the shipping for the entire rifle to be sent in but I said I would prefer to just have the sight sent.

Once the sight arrives I will try to straighten the existing sight. If it breaks then I will figure out the best way to tap it out and replace it with the new one.

    Thanks for all the help.

The front sight is not held in by a screw at least mine isn't. You need a flat punch and simply tap it out and put the new one in the same way. This is how one would adjust the front sight for windage corrections also. Oh and it doesn't take a lot of tapping either.
