    Rossi single shot rifles - anyone own one ?

    I've had so much fun shooting my Marlin 60, that I decided to step up to a centerfire rifle. I bought a Rossi Youth model in .223 (the size is fine because I'm a small guy).
    The package deal included a mounted and bore sighted 3x9 scope, plus a Plano hard case, all for $199.99 plus tax. I haven't shot it yet, but would welcome any recommendations as to ammo.

    Two years ago I purchased a used Rossi in .223 with a 3X9 Simmons scope on it.A fairly accurate piece.
    Then I bought the three barrel combo rifle with .22,20 gauge and .243.What a piece of crap!I sold it quickly.
    Recently I bought a new .44 magnum with black synthetic stock.What a nice accurate rifle.This one is a real keeper.

    Center fire interchangeable barrels work fine, throwing rimfire into the mix usually doesn't, the rimfies usually have more misfires on breakopen rifles.

    A sample target, after sighting in at 100 yards. The target measures 11"x18".

    The next time out, I will try 200 yards.

    Re: Rossi single shot rifles - anyone own one ?

    I have the Rossi .223 single shot and had posted about it a while back here;

    http://www.taurusarmed.net/forums/in...p?topic=4128.0

    I have found it to be very accurate but does much better with lighter ammo due to the 'lazy' twist in the barrel. I find Remington 45 grain to be very accurate, Winchester white box 45 grain is supposed to be good in this rifle as well but I have not been able to find any. Here's my sample target of a typical grouping I can get with the Rossi using 45 grain ammo, this was at 50 yds.

    I've been shooting the Monarch steel 55gr. They're cheap at $5.99 for 20 rounds.
    I just picked up some Winchester 45gr JHP's at Walmart ($23.97 for 40), but haven't shot them yet.

    You guys need to shoot a little less and hold back more....I got a feeling this situation will get worse before it improves......we've all been tracking it for 6 months now.....and where there is plenty of ammo....it's plum expensive.

    Yeah I agree but if you don't break in a new rifle (clean/shoot/repeat) and sight it in, what fun is buying it?

    Re: Rossi single shot rifles - anyone own one ?

    I picked up a used 243/20 guage combo a while back and was having a heck of a time sighting in the 243, i even tried changing out the scope. I ended up changing ammo and was able to get it fairly close. Well last week there was a large crow about 225 yards out in the hayfield so i decided to try and take the shot. I had serious doubts about making a shot that far but wouldn't you know it, feathers flew and that thing fell right over. I feel much better about that purchase now. Now i'm just waiting for one of those darn coyoteys to show up for more practice.
