    - Tracker 627 and Tracker 992 Revolvers -

    Hello All,
Thanks to all the wonderful info here and other sources, I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I can not live life any longer without some revolvers in the collection. To that end, and with the desire to have function and flexibility with as few as possible, I've pretty much decided that the next additions will be a Tracker 627/SS/4", and a Tracker 992/SS/6.5". These will probably be the ONLY revolvers for me, and not intended for CC. Due to various reasons and about 30 years of history, I think I'm about 99.9% set on this, but would appreciate any info/feedback, especially if anyone thinks this is NOT a good idea. Thanks in advance. I know how hard it is for you folks to offer up opinions, especially about guns. Geez, talk about pulling teeth.

I was all set to buy a Mdl 992, but at 55oz I don't think so. That's as heavy, and some cases even more so; than a Taurus® Mdl 44SS6 44 Magnum! I'll stick with a Taurus Mdl 94 for my 22lr revolver.

I have a close friend that bought the Taurus® Mdl 627SS6 and I have shot it extensively. It's an absolute tack driver and handles Buffalo Bore 180gr LFNGC "Bear Loads" with aplomb! If I didn't already have four Taurus® 357 Magnum revolvers, (2-605's, a 617 and a 669); I would buy one for sure. It's a great gun!

I loved my 627 Tracker, but I sold her to a guy at work, he's now loving her. I had a couple small issues with mine, but has been fixed now and I hear is his favorite revolver out of 7 that he has. I liked the versatility of it, .38 or .357 and the ported barrel was just cool looking and functional all the same. I think you will love it too.

    I love my 627 6.5"
Shoots whatever I feed it. Accurate as hell. Well beyond my capabilities, but I hold really nice groups at 25 yards. And it's a blast.

The 627 does not get as much " press " here at these forums as the model 66, but it is a excellent gun from what the owners have seen.

I am not that enamored with the 992. It is a heavy, heavy beast. There are a few owners here( it's hard for Taurus to keep up with demand) who find them more than adequate, very accurate, and durable. I have not experience with one.

I do own the Taurus 94, a 5 incher, and a 990 with a 6 inch barrel. Several of our members have scoped their 990s and are shooting very, very tight groups. or... putting varmints to sleep forever.

The owners of 970s,7 shot, have excellent stories and facts to tell as well about theirs.

Thanks All. Pretty much confirms what I had already heard. I figure the 992 covers the plinking/critter-control bases, and the 627 can be a range/kit gun, covering 4 calibers with 2 guns. While it has been many years, I enjoyed shooting large frame revolvers, but after an 'incident' with a snubbie 38 while in the Army, I've stuck with semi-autos.

I have a 990, the same as the 992 without the magnum cylinder. I love it but it is one big heavy honker for a .22lr. Wish I had gotten the 4". The wife can't handle it very well.

Yep. I'd prefer the 4", but since they seem like vapor ware, I figure I can live with the 6.5, and I won't accidentally grab the 22 when I need the 357.

The 22's being the same size and weight as the big bore guns make them perfect to practice with. You can scope both the 22 and your center fire for example and practice for pennies on the dollar in ammo cost. When you change from one gun to the other there is not much adjustment. Open sight use is the same, but the accuracy of these guns with a scope is amazing. Chipmunks past 50 yards with a 22 revolver gets your attention. I own several Smith revolvers in 22 and the Taurus 22 revolvers are just as accurate and better. Smith double action trigger pull is better but single action the Taurus hold their own.

Got a 991 22 mag 4" a few months ago. Very finicky on ammo and the timing was off. Awaiting its return and can't wait to go squirrel hunting with it. Seems to like Hornady best. Even with its issue it was still pretty accurate. When I get it back I'll post how it's doing.
