Age and Model of my 357

    Greetings all,
I tried to post a new thread a few minutes ago and when I clicked on preview, it disappeared so this may be a double post but anyway. I recently acquired a stainless 357 Magnum. I cannot find the Model Number on it or don't know where to look. It is a 7 shot revolver, with a 6 inch barrel with ventilated rib and ports near the front sight. It has "Taurus - Brazil" on one side of the barrel and "357 Magnum" on the other side. The serial number is 01329XXX. Is there a site where I can find when this was made? I have attached a photo of it but it is not the best. From looking at the Taurus website, I'm assuming it is a Model 66 but don't know if that is right. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Open the cylinder, look on the Crane and you will find the number 66!

Is that a 66, or a 689. It looks like a stainless version of my 689.

    Does Taurus make a 689 or is a 689 a S & W?

My pistol says Taurus, not S&W. Taurus also made a 669, with a solid top rail. They are closer in frame size to the S&W "L" framed 586 and 686.

Anyhow, open the cylinder and look at the inside of the crane for the model number.

Thanks for the replies. Interestingly the serial number on my 357 was not listed on the "Taurus International Manufacturing Inc - Find My Model" site. I did find the model number on the crane and it is a 601. I did a search on model 601 and found one for sale on a auction that looks just like mine so I guess it is a 601. It has "Made in Brazil"stamped on the side so that might be the reason the serial number is not on the Taurus site, even though Taurus Int. Mfg. Miami, Fl. - USA is stamped on the side near the serial number.

you may want to look a tad harder, the 1 on it, i'm betting is a 7. that makes it a taurus 607. a friend of mine has one of those guns. further, when i googled taurus 601 there weren't a lot of good matches on the results. i'm about 95% certain that's a 607.

    The OP's gun is a 7 shot Taurus® Mdl 607 357 Magnum.
