I am far from a specialist on the older models. But if it is stamped 609, it sure must be one. What caliber is it? 38 or 357/38??
Of course the current 609 is a semi auto.
so i have been to 3 gun shops and no one knows what this thing is it says taurus and is stamped 609 all over the place

You can go to taurus web site and key in the serial number and get the info.
With guns that are older, and were imported by earlier companies, that does not work. If you want to try, a phone call. This is the new Taurus Customer Service number at 1-800-327-3776Originally Posted by WJL24

It appears that you have the same "old" Taurus logo on that grip as well...
This should date it prior to 1977 according to input from other members here.
Taurus Customer service will most probably be of no assistance to you, but you can call them and see if you have better luck than I did-
If your gun is stamped with "INT DIST INC. Miami".. it should be 70's era gun like mine.
Internet research comes back with zilch to help narrow down year of production by serial lookup, unfortunately.
I am trying to gain access to a Blue Book of Gun Values to see if that will help determine year of production on these older model Tauri.
Good luck with your quest!
That looks like an oldie. Is there a number stamped on the inside of the crane? Just from the photo I'm thinking it's an old model 80 or 82 or 83 (can't remember if this model has the fixed sites or not).
I'm not aware of any old Taurus revolvers with the model number stamped more than once or on the outside of the frame somewhere. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this one.
