Any known issues with the 617 ss2 357 magnum??

Hey guys first post here. Ive owned a couple of Taurus revolvers in the past and haven't had any trouble with them. I traded in the 605 357 magnum and still have the judge poly public defender. I got the itch last week for the 617 ss2 7 shot 357 magnum so I had my lgs order me one. Its supposed to be in by mid week. Are there any known issues with this particular model? They seem to be more rare than most other Taurus revolvers. I have watched you tube videos of it and read good about it on the internet. Im not planning on putting thousands of rounds through this gun. It will serve as a nightstand gun that gets fired occassionally to ensure that it functions properly. So is the 617 a wise investment? Thank you for any input.

The 617 come with compact frame combat grips. The Ribber™ grips will also fit the gun as it is the same frame size as the Taurus® TRACKER™ series. If you are going to shoot a lot of 357 Magnums, I recommend you purchase the Ribber™ grips as they tame recoil far better than the grips that come with the gun. Take this from a fellow 617SS2 (2003) owner that has put 13K+ rounds through his 617.

David- Appreciate the tip on the Ribber Grips. I'll be using mine with 38 special, 357 will be rare if ever; really got interested in the 617 for the 7 round capacity. Opted for a new 617 rather than seeking out an 817.

The compact frame grips look good but I already ordered Hogue 73000 grips. I may just get the Ribber as well just to compare all three.

13, 000 rounds huh? Thats awesome. Sounds like you got a good one. I won't come close to that im sure unless I really like shooting it. I like the combat grips just from the looks of them. I took the ribbers off my public defender and got pachmyer grips. I'll practice with a mix of 38 & magnums but it will be loaded with magnum pdx1 or golden saber for service duty if need be. Thanks for the replies. I'll report back after I get it.

Does the 617 use the same size frame as the model 450 and 455?

I have one. Numerous rounds with no issues. Solid shooter. Better felt recoil over my UL 85's.

In comparison, I thought recoil was similar to the 605. Definitely one keeper for my lifetime inventory.

I have a 617 too, but it's the blued version; haven't had anything but good experiences with it... congrats on your new revolver; if it's like mine it's a keeper.
