I agree with everything you say except that, for me, the extra heft of the S&W 686 is somewhat more reassuring and comfortable. It's a mental thing. Don't get me wrong. The M66 is a good "piece" and it's what I carry when I'm out in the pasture tractor or UTV riding. It'll get the job done.

No argument here. I just wanted him to know that the 66 was more of a direct comparison to the S&W Model 19. Like I said, I love my 686's.

It is a great revolver. I have an older stainless model with 4" barrel and it is very well made and very solid.A great overall gun.

my first revolver was a 6" m66 stainless. i love this gun. i've only had 1 small issue with mine in the 2 or 3 years (has it really been that long?) since i bought it. the screw that holds the crane in place backed out and caused the spring that keeps tension on the cylinder lock to not do it's job. i've only got about 800 rounds (400 .357 and 400 38 special) through mine so it's just getting broken in. solid, accurate and dependable. what more could ya ask for. i did change out my rubber grip for a hogue wood grip. i felt the rubber grip was a tad skinny.

I've got two model 66s. One is a 1980s period gun and the other is a later 7 shot version.

I carry them in a Bianchi 6 IWB holster.

Only two problems with mine. Need to use some adhesive on the latch screw. and new grips. Taurus NEEDS to stop shipping the grips installed on the gun inside the bag of goop.

This is a shooting gun, it needs to go past 7 yards. it loves 25 yards. 158 grain jsp @1250 in my 6" shoot poi/poa

It's kinda hard to go wrong with a medium sized 38/357 wheelgun.

Unless something is seriously wrong with it, it will be mechanically more accurate than you are able to shoot.

It can do anything from plink and play on the range to make meat for the soup pot or defend you and yours.

You can load it so light that you can see the round ball flying through the air or you can load it up with heavy 158, 180 or 200gr (there is a 230gr bullet available, too, just not in factory ammo) hunting ammo that will roll your wrists and, if properly applied, take any animal on the continent.

Personally, I like the 4 inch better. It's easier to tote and conceal and I like the balance better but a 6 inch will give you a longer sight radius and just a little more velocity.

I'll give another solid vote for the M66. I have the stainless version with a 4" barrel. Love it! The trigger is smooth, it handles full house .357 loads with no trouble. As has been said, 25+ yards and it is deadly accurate. Get one, heck, get two! They can be addictive.

I've had a Model 66 since the '70s, nicest shooting little 6 inch revolver I've ever fired. Mine is a 6 shot, blue with great looking wooden grips. I let my wife shoot it once and it flew out of her hand and broke the wooden grips. Now I have Hogue rubber grips on it and I like it even better!
You can't go wrong......buy lt!!

I have a Stainless 7 shot model 66 and it is my favorite gun to shoot. Carry it while deer hunting for wounded deer. Im good shooting out to 15 yds with it.

Another vote of 'yes' for the Model 66. My 1989 blued 4" is the favorite. It's with me all the time in my car and as my CCW. Accurate and carries well for me cross draw with a canted holster.
