Well I am having the dreaded "tight barrel cylinder gap" problem with my new Tracker 990. While filling out the work order I entered the serial number in the Taurus find your model feature to get the "Official" model designation. According to Taurus, my 990 Tracker (according to the serial number) is actually a Model 94SS4. I matched the SN on the frame to the SN on the box and they are the same; however, the model designation on the box also says 94SS4. My revolver really is a Tracker 990.
I am going to call Taurus in the morning about shipping it back but this SN thing is likely to make matters more complicated. Furthermore BATF is likely to be curious about why the SN doesn't match the model number.

OK, here is an update. I called Taurus today following the instructions on their web site. I explained my issue with the revolver that led to my investigating the serial number. The CS rep asked for the SN and I provided it. She asked me to repeat the SN which I did. She reported that the SN I provided was assigned to a Model 94SS4. I explained that I had done the same thing and came to the same conclusion but assured her that it was a Tracker. She put me on hold to speak to a supervisor. When she came back she said that Taurus would pay shipping and issue a request to FedEx to pick it up at my office. We spoke in depth about the problems I was having to be sure that their smith could address all the issues. All in all they were very cooperative and accomidating. They did seem very concerned about the SN issue and appeared eager to resolve the issue for me.
This is the second Tracker and third Taurus/Rossi revolver I have sent back for repair. In my previous experience all issues have been corrected and the Customer Service representative has been excellent and no follow-up has been necessary. Having to sent a product back for repair/replacement is disappointing but the quality of customer service I have recieved from Taurus has been very fullfilling.

I got an email on Tuesday from Taurus saying they had recieved my revolver. They suggested it might take up to 6 weeks for the repair. The "repair status" on their web site showed it as recieved and waiting for repair. Apparently they are doing a better job of staying on top of the repair status site.

Well, I checked the status of my Tracker yesterday and it showed "repaired, waiting for shipping" sure enough it arrived at my office today. Repair and return was way faster than the six weeks they quoted me on September 21st. They picked it up on Sept 13 and it arrived back on Oct 3; just short of three weeks door to door.
The repair order showed:
Cylinder touching barrell / adjusted
Yoke off center / adjusted
The increase in barrel cylinder gap is obvious. I haven't taken a feeler guage to it yet but estimate 0.006-0.008. The yoke adjustment is likely due to my complaint that the chamber did not line up perfectly with the forcing cone. It looks like they may have reamed the forcing cone slightly in addition to adjusting the yoke. It may be my imagiation but the action feels smoother; they may have polished some parts while they were in there.
I need to shoot it to evaluate the complete repair but everything looks good to go.

I hope the firing goes well? Turn time seems normal these days.
Well, today was range day. Taurus gave it the Steve Austin treatment (any of y'all old enough to remember the Six Million Dollar Man?). Anyway function this time was perfect. I put an entire 333 round box of Winchester bulk ammo through it; it shoots very well. Double action is heavy as is expected for a rimfire revolver but is very smooth. I was able to keep everything in a 3 inch group DA at 7 yards and a 4 inch group at 12 yards. I got the rear sight dialed in and was litterly blowing out the bullseye. The heavy barrel really helps keep the front sight from moving around too much in DA. I haven't shot it off a bench rest yet single action to properly evaluate the accuracy (precision) potential but I expect it to shoot as well or better than my 1947 S&W K-22.
I did have an interesting conversation with one of the mall ninjas at the range today. He came over while I was shooting to look over my shoulder. When he saw I was shooting a Taurus he began bad mouthing the brand as innacurate. I brought the target back and he had to eat his words. I then made him shoot the Tracker; he liked it. I had to admit it had gone back to Taurus for a free tune up but I pointed out I had sent Glocks, Smith & Wessons, Kel-Tecs, and Colts back for service as well. I think I am going to really like this Tracker .22
