I have thought more than twice before I bought each one of my ten Taurus handguns...almost to the point of obsessing each time because I don't have a bunch of discretionary funds. Have had issues with a couple of them - one was back in my hands FIVE days later at $0 cost to me, the other was a little frustrating and took about six weeks and two trips to be resolved.

...Did I mention I have purchased TEN Taurus handguns?

Based on my experience, when VALUE matters most I will look to Taurus first. If I'm flush with cash and money isn't a factor I'll pick up a Nighthawk Custom or Les Baer, but I am a VERY happy Taurus customer. (Especially happy with my two PT1911's)

I think twice. Do I have the money and do I need another gun? The answer is usually yes.

Work with Taurus CS they've always done right by me.

My PT1911 made it through a four day gun course with over 600 rounds going through it without a hiccup.

By the way welcome from East Texas to the best gun forum on the internet.

Always remember to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle your targets
    Reduce them to shreds
Reuse shoot them more than once
    Recycle whatever is left over

About me - I take very little seriously especially myself.

Ignorance is the lack of knowledge. Stupid is the refusal to do anything about it.

I thought twice. The first time I ended up with my favorite pistol, my PT 1911 SS which has rendered yeoman service over 5000 rounds. The second time I thought about my PT 145 SS which will be my carry piece when IL passes CWP or I look at the state in my rear view mirror.

If the OP's intention was to dissuade potential purchasers of Taurus firearms I believe that he's thinking that he posted on THR or TFL.

Seriously Daniel, if you do get a PT 1911 in good working order I am pretty sure that will not find a better 1911 for accuracy and value.

Especially if you happen to inspect the gun before you go home with it.

For that matter, if you are basing an opinion of a manufactuer on one data point then you shouldn't be buying anything. I have a 24/7 and had to send it back for repair after the second week I had it. I got it back within about a week or so and haven't had any problems with it and I have put 300 - 400 rounds through it sense I got it back.

That is strange, I have bought new and used Taurus and they work great. Only malfunction I had was in the 24/7 DS Compact in .40 S&W. It would only happen once every hundred rounds or so.

what is mind boggling is how the slide can fit on the frame at a angle and the pistol function at all. how can this be? you would not even be able to rack the slide to chamber a round,as far as that goes the pistol would be totally inoperable out of the box. something doesn't make sense.

First 1911? If, in fact, the slide was "mounted at an angle", it should have been apparent when you inspected it prior to buying.

There is no "safety pin on the left side of the slide". The safety of a 1911 is in the frame. The only involvement of the slide is when the safety is applied, and it physically locks the slide in place in the notch at the bottom of the slide.

With the slide mounted as you describe, the hammer would be prevented from reaching lock by the slide itself. Where is this "gash" located? On the frame? On the slide?

If you've read very many of the Service related posts here, you would realize that CS, and the actual gunsmiths who do the work, aren't in synch with each other (nor are they in any large gun manufacturer). CS has a computer system to report when guns are "ready". Until it's entered into that, they are clueless.

Six weeks is the average time for a serious problem. If the gun has a frame that is machined incorrectly, you will see the gun sent to a review board, and permission to replace the entire weapon will need to come from Brazil, the head office.

A Warranty will never replace inspecting the gun BEFORE you buy it. Bad things can happen to good guns, made by anyone. It's absolutely ludicrous to buy a gun with a known problem, and then complain when it needs to be sent in for repair. In the Old Days, a person new to a type of gun, or guns overall, took someone along who knew what to look for, and watch out for. It's evidently not cool to do that today, but it sure saved a lot of trouble back then.

yeah i was just scolded by one of the moderator for not doing a proper inspection. when taking a look at the store with the friend i took with me neither of us noticed off the bat. Played with the slide a bit, hammer pulled back fine. Should have taken a good look from the front and we would have noticed that the slide grinded against the frame on the right side of the gun.

Until today i was told that the gun "Should be done by now" by the taurus customer service staff. Today was the first time that I was told that the website does not indicate when a gun begins repairs. Apparently it does not work properly. Asked for a update, told me to call back friday.

Please let us know what you hear on Friday...keep a cool head about this please, I've had guns out of the box that needed to go back to the manufacturer for repair. (Taurus, S&W, Kahr) I've never had the urge to let everyone know about the issue in the manner you have in your original post.
