Typically only very, very large gun shops/companies that order volume amounts will order directly from a manufacture.
The middle man ( distributors) get in on the action and thier cut of profits by ordering large volumes from manufactures and then saleing them in bits and pieces to smaller gun shops.
As a distributor / large wholesaler or manufacture should rotate the oldest stock out first (although this doesn't always happen) then regardless of where the gun comes from the determining factor of age will be how many units of that particular gun type sale and how fast.
for simple matter of keeping the log of serialized guns its in the best interest (easiest) for the manufacture to ship them out by serial number.
OF course as i mentioned i think earlier, guns typically don't wear out sitting on a shelf and typically have a much longer shelf life than a banana , so i don't personally see the worry?

Thanks,
What I was thinking was, suppose Taurus comes out with a new "widget" for their 1911's, how long will it be before that change gets into the system? I guess it would depend on how long the distributor sits on inventory?

Hard to tell, actually Taurus is discontinuing most of its 1911 widgets!
like alloy frame, the rail, the gold trimings, the 38 Super.
The Pt1911 is pretty much widgeted out if you look at it, extended beavertail, ambi safety, ring hammer, ventilated trigger, Novak sights.
I think the next widget is going to be a commander widget Pt1911 personally.
course Taurus has a long history of advertising new things and them never coming into reality, so you just never know!

That's actually kind of awesome, i didn't know that would happen with beer and cake. Always figured ice cream and beer would make some sort of weird float-like substance that may not agree with me when it hits the stomach.
