Taurus 1911AL vs. Ruger SR1911...what would you choose?

If you had to choose between the Taurus 1911AL (discontinued aluminum frame) or the Ruger SR1911, where would you put your hard earned cash? Would a brand new in box 1911AL be worth $615 total cash in hand? Or is this a bit on the high side for one of these? I have never held an AL model, but do currently own a SS as well as owned a SS and gold in the past, but from what I have read the AL is a whole different pistol. Also, it the only finish on the AL the aluminum lower frame with the dark steel slide upper? I do know that it does come in rail and without rail, but not sure on the finish.
Thanks for your imput and I greatly respect your opinion.

UP DATED PAGE 4......I went with the Taurus PT-1911 AL for now.

I own a stainless, railess, PT1911, and honestly, I'd have to go with the Ruger. Absolutely nothing wrong with my Taurus, it's a keeper, but I've been eyeing the Ruger for awhile. I like Rugers too!

I have a Tauri 1911 AL and a Springfield 1911 A1 and I can tell the difference between those two in recoil and sight acquisition, but first let me clarify that statement too. I just got the Springfield out of lay-away middle of last week and it was all over the back stop board with its fixed sights. Sasquatch at Elks Castle is going to put some meprolights on it and zero it in for me...for a price of course.

Nevertheless, I could tell the difference between the AL and the A1 and I like the AL a lot more now. I hope I can find another one as soon as...lol..I get a Colt 1911 M911 outta lay-away in early Oct. My AL is getting all my shots inside a 9" plate at 50ft and 30 yds with my one good eye too.

    here's a pic Jon:

I agree with Smokewagon, I am the proud owner of a PT 1911, but I am looking more forward to my SR 1911 that I had ordered since JULY 2011!

At $615 its a steal (not sure were you can get a new Ruger for that), but I think that you are comparing apples to oranges, yea they're both 1911, but one has an aluminum frame and the other a stainless steel frame, if I was to buy the pistol to CCW I would have to say that I would go with the Taurus but if I was planing to put thousands of round through it and use it as a HD and range gun I would apt to get the Ruger, but if you would say compare a stainless PT1911 to the SR1911 I would have to consider all the features, price wise the Taurus takes it, steel quality wise the Taurus takes it, feature wise the Taurus takes it, warranty wise they are tie, so over all I think you get more for your money going with the Taurus.

They are both good pistols, lately Ruger has had their share of th SR1911's returned for repairs. To be fair i think all manufacturers are slacking in Q.C. right now,the demand is high and most can't keep up, they are cranking out the pistols as fast as possible to try to keep up with the demand while it lasts.

I have a few Ruger guns and like them. I also hear good things about the SR1911, but I am a lefty, so the PT1911 is the hands-down winner for me as I would have to pay extra for ambi controls and install them on the Ruger. I have the PT1911AL. It is my only 1911 at present and I shoot it well. It is much lighter than the Springfield officer's model I had before. Also, $615 seems high as I bought mine when Larry's had them on sale for $450 last year.

Nothing against the PT1911 AL but I prefer steel framed guns and would buy the Ruger for that reason.

I've already made the decision to start saving up for an SR1911. Given the option, however, I think I would go for the PT1911AL, especially
if it was NiB. The SR1911's will be around for a long while; A NiB 1911AL won't be. As for the price, considering the fact that
the prices on PT1911s seem to be on the rise, $615 might not be a bad deal.
