rock island or taurus 1911 in 9mm?

Is the Taurus $100 nicer? BUDS has them right at $100 difference, and I can get them transferred for $25. I don't think I have seen a Taurus locally to see how I like the finish, and I can't decide how much I like the rock island finish. If I got the rock, I know I would change grips, but would probably hold off on the Taurus.

I am hung up on a new metal framed 9mm, specifically an EAA witness or a 1911. The price is closer in the EAA and the rock. And no, I can't get both.

I loved my Taurus. I looked at a Rock Island and thought it was a hell of a gun; the features on the Taurus were what set me over the edge.

You can't make a bad choice here. If you're a customizer, get the Rock Island. If you want the gun customized already, you can't beat the Taurus for the money.

I agree 100% with this. I handled both of these and even got to put a few rounds through a friends Rock Island and it's a nice gun. But the features that came on my Taurus sold me on it. All I've done is swapped out the factory grips for a set of Raasco's and I love it

I just stopped by a lgs that had the rock 9mm tactical and fondled it for a few minutes on lunch. Looks nice enough. I probably wouldn't customize it other than grips most likely and possibly some trigger work if I decided I needed it. But beyond that, not much else.

I might try to talk the wife into one of those and a gsg 1911-22. Both felt nice enough for me. The shop clerk said he has out shot a kimber with a rock island, and had nothing but good things to say.

Go with the EAA witness, it is based on the cz75 and if you are going to have a 9mm anyway why not have 15 of them instead of 9. The cz75b's were selling pretty cheap, and they are the original of the EAA witness type of pistol.

I might do that, and start my 1911 collection with a gsg. I just fondled a rock 9mm at lunch and like it well enough. I probably wont carry a 1911 anytime soon, so I might start with the 22, and then get a pretty one in 45 later on.

The $100 difference would be made up on the RIA by adding on customized parts, the Taurus will already have those parts installed. Essentially, both guns are a good value and whatever one you go with should perform admirably.

If money is the issue (which most of use totally understand in the current economy) then by all means go with the RIA 1911.

They're good guns that'll give a live time of enjoyment and won't break the bank in the process.

well here it is for me in the comparison! and this is assuming that you are comparing a Blue Rock Tactical to a Pt1911 in blue, this is a closer to apples to apples comparison.
the rock has a better finish (not as splotchy looking), better fit as its tighter, the sights are a toss up, I actually like the solid black rear sight instead of the white dots, like the ambi safety better on the rock as its not nearly as huge, the trigger pull goes to the PT1911, same beavertail safety, same commander hammer, same ventilated trigger as to looks.(Operation is not the same)
Now all this said and this may differ pistol to pistol but i found that the Rock was shooting very low and so changed out the front sight for a .140 unit, and the trigger was creepy and had over travel which the rock trigger has no adjustments, so swapped out the trigger for the STI trigger.
the gun now shoots very nicely, it also has improved considerbally with several hundred rounds through it, it was very tight at first.
this cost me an additional 70 bucks or so, I now have about 510 bucks in the Rock island tactical, doubt that i could get a PT1911 for that?
either psitol is a very good buy in my opinion and I have 4 -PT1911;s.
