I've had 1911's break in well with 200 rounds, and some that took 500 before I'd trust their reliability.

And price isn't necesarrily a good indicator of which brand will perform well out of the box.

I've had bargain basement Norinco's out shoot tricked out Colts, and Kimbers and Springfields that had to be sent back.

The 1911 is an awesome platform or it wouldn't have lasted over 100 years, BUT they can be a bit finicky till you get em properly broken in with good mags.

And like all semiautos, they have to be "properly handled" (no limp wristing etc.) with good quality ammo to be reliable.

Sounds good and made me think of the PT1911AL I like.

I think a person does have to pay shipping back to the company. $60.00

Biggest thing IMO, they need to be cleaned well when you bring 'em home from the store (that packing grease is a sticky mess and if you burn powder through it it turns to sticky concrete) and they can take up to 500 rounds of FMJ to break in.

    Round-count sounds great for yours.

My Para has 375 rounds through it. I had a FTF as late as round 350 (approx). FMJ only. I'm wondering if it is possible to get the reliability of a good but not necessarily top-notch 1911 after 500 or 600 rounds have gone through it.

My wish before I bought it was modest: Good reliability with FMJ.

Good point about price. Many are happy with their 350-400 dollar RIA's.

Too bad we can't get new Norinco's anymore. I heard of many Kimber's going back. Somewhat surprised about Springfield's, I guess those particular models were made tight.

I have 2 PT1911 one purchased new in 2010, s/n NAP6xxx, and one Purchased new last saturday s/n NAX 7xxx, both were made in 2007, both are flawless, seem like 2007 were a good year for the PT1911's, both are fitted better than my Colt and both are more accurate than my Colt.
I can see why these Guns are flying off the Shelves, i would like a PT1911 AL but i have never seen one in Person.

I had constant feed problems with my Charles Daly EFS Target (stainless steel model) until I switched to Chip McCormick Match magazines. These are made to a higher standard than the shooting starts. The original magazines were Meg-Gar and they just didn't feed reliably.

The other four aftermarket ones are Checkmate extended (extend a little past the grip) 8 round mags with hybrid feed lips and dimpled followers. These never jammed on the first or last round.

Both the CMC and Checkmate have about the same jam rates with my Para.

that normally depends on how long that you have owned the gun, and in my opinon as to whether you registered the gun with the manufacture to set the purchase date.
I have sent 2 back and everything ( including shipping) was taken care of by the manufacture.

Ok, so back to "cuiousge5" question; Suppose I get my local shop to order one from>>>>> Taurus????? or would it be from a distributor? If it's from Taurus I would think it would be fairly new, at least within a couple of months, yes?
Would you-all think that my local gun shop could order straight from Taurus or are they fixed to get weapons from a distributor?
