    Les Baer 1911 Ambi Safety

    Hey folks.

I just purchased a Les Bear 1911 ambi safety to replace the stock ambi safety on my Taurus PT1911 in 38 super.

I found the thumb pad thingy intriguing since I shoot with my thumb on top of the left side safety.

    Anybody tried this version?

It looks like this one but in stainless steel.

Re: Les Baer 1911 Ambi Safety

NOPE! haven't used it or any ambi safety as a replacement, actually I just swapped out the Taurus 1911 Ambi safties with two single safeties on my 1911 Tauri.
The ambi extended safeties on the pistols were just to large, to easily disengaged, engaged and me being right handed I needed all that extra junk hanging off the right side like i needed a mudflap on them.
I used the Ed brown Tactical safeties for them!
as long as they are well made safeties they work fine!
Notice how clean the right side is now on them!

Re: Les Baer 1911 Ambi Safety

    Good looking safety,

I have not used a Ed Brown safety but since it is EB I am sure it is good. Like OldFireHorse, I prefer a single sided safety. For me the ambi safeties are to easy to accidentally flip off and make some guns just that much wider.

I am right handed and since becoming pretty competent in my strong hand training, my last couple of years I have been devoting more time weak hand than strong. Not all guns have ambi safeties and I prefer to keep my training simple, that means I have just learned to disengage the safety with my left trigger finger while drawing weak hand. It is slightly slower than using a ambi and weak hand thumb but it works on any gun reguardless of safety design.

I do shoot with the thumbs forward and on the safety, on a 1911 like you though, took me a while to get used to it but my double tap and transition times have gone down with this hold.

Just a friendly reminder, the safety on a 1911 is a fitted part and will most likely not drop in and work correctly. If you don't feel comfortable doing this please use a qualified gunsmith.

Good luck and post some pics when you get it installed.

Me and Olfarhors are like twins!

I did the Ed Brown extended thumb safety for my PT1911 and I'm installing another one in my custom build. I LOVE the way a single sided safety looks. Let me know what you think of that Les Baer quality. I've seen good and bad ratings for some of the Les Baer products I've looked into.

HMM! those stainless hi-lites look good on that old blue gun!
    Whose trigger is that Cuda?
how do you like the straight trigger instead of a curved one?
I am thinking about swapping the one on my Para USA out, it works fine but is made form that new space age material (plastic) and that just kinda don't seem right!
OH, sorry texaslawman I meant to welcome you to the forum in the first post!

Re: Les Baer 1911 Ambi Safety

olfarhors, that's a Caspian Trik-Trigger. I love it! I love the flat trigger. It was incredibly easy to fit to the PT1911. I only had to take a little off the top and bottom, and given that it's aluminum, that was easy. It's slightly longer than the Taurus trigger, and with my larger hands, it fits beautifully. The grips, grip safety, and trigger all helped to really seat my PT1911 beautifully in my hands.

Sorry, texaslawman69, we don't mean to thread-jack, but we're just so passionate about our 1911s.

Been a Taurus owner for a long time now. Just got back into shooting after about 10 years.
    I own a Model 66 357mag.
My older PT-99AF 9mm was ripped off and I just purchased a brand new PT-1911 SS 45cal. I will try the Ed Brown single side safety to accommodate the Crimson Trace Laser Grips that I ordered for it. Thanks for info. Nice guns by the way.

OOOOOOOO I like that stainless look on a all blue 1911!! I just got my Springfield 1911A1 out from Lay-Away and was looking at Ed Brown on adding some lipstick on my new acquistion. Stainless is a very possible thought but I was looking for some enameled polish black ambi safety, beaver tail, mag release and a couple other accents WITH a white trigger.

Range report and pics on my S&W Classic 629, Dan Wesson .44 and Springfield 1911A1 om monday..if I can find my camera battery charger before then..lol.
