Pulling the slide back in PT1911

As most of you guys know, I am an old fool with silly quetions. This is my 1st 1911. When pulling the slide back to load 1st rd. into chamber, do yo pull the silde back from the front top or from the the back. The reason I ask if my desert eagle and every other gun i own I can cock it by pulling the slide from the back. The 1911 just seem like its hard as heck. I know I'm old but not that weak.

I've seen people cycle the slide in all manor of ways. The proper and safest way is to pull it back from the rear gripping it by the serrations on the rear of the slide. You can push with one hand a pull with the other in this manor. The stiffness will ease up with use. Be sure you've thoroughly cleaned the pistol and lubed the slide properly. This will help also.

If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.' Thomas Jefferson

you can put the front of the slide on a table edge and push down on the grip

seen it in a movie, a one armed man needed to load a gun, i never thought of doing it that way...

I do it both ways, although I feel like doing it in the manner that BigSkiff suggested would also eliminate the chances of your palm getting caught in the chamber
and I think Kimber put such a rear-sight on their SIS Custom 1911 pistols; those rear sights, instead of thinning out and becoming more level with the slide towards the front, remain about 1/4 inch above the slide all around, allowing one-handed cocking of the gun like you had described.

Thanks guys I will keep working on it. Maybe after more trips to range it will loosen up a little if not off to gun smith.

Put your hand on the rear serrations with the other hand on the grip. Rotate the gun so the hand on the slide is under the gun and the grip hand is above the gun. Execute a push/pull movement. This is much more comfortable than the traditional method for my arthritic hands
