The manual was written by a lawyer. The catalog specifically states that all Taurus guns except the magnesium revolver are rated for +P ammo. I wouldn't just go crazy with it, but definitely run some through to be sure that it works and functions correctly, then keep it in your mag for self defense.

Honestly, coming from a long barrel like the 1911, you're getting pretty good velocity anyway....I would definitely stick with the 230 grain. Now, from a shorter barrel like the PT145, if I used a conventional hollowpoint round, I'd probably opt for +P with a lighter bullet like a 165 grainer. You'd likely get enough velocity for the hollowpoint to expand.

    Re: Safe to use +p

I loaded some +P ammo for my PT1911 before, it worked fine...but it's never a good idea with any gun to shot JUST +P ammo as it will simply wear out the gun faster. Manual recommendation is not a bad thing to follow.

On a side note: 165 is a bit on a light side IMHO...I'd go with +P load 185 or 200 from shorter barrel....
