Is Break Free CLP good to use on plastic frame guns

I'm a simple person and like to keep things simple. For cleaning guns I like a cleaner and an oil.

I've been using Hoppes #9 for cleaning but was given a bottle of Break Free CLP. Is this safe to use on the frame of a pt709? I know it works well for metal and the barrel. I use Hoppes oil for where I need it and like it well.

I've used Break Free CLP on all my "Tuberware" guns since 1987 without a problem.

Keep it simple works for me too...

...as a side note, my Agency has been using Breakfree CLP exclusively on all our weapons (handguns, rifles and shotguns) for nearly 30 years with good results.

There's lots of "other" good gun cleaning products on the market, but this old stand by still works just fine.

Re: Is Break Free CLP good to use on plastic frame guns

Yea its safe and it used to be pretty good stuff. I read sometime ago they changed the formula and in addition to it not being as effective ( CLP stands for Cleaner/Lubricant/Protectant) IT STINKS NOW

THat has to be the nastiest smelling oil on the planet.

Google it and youll find the change. It still works OK, I cant tell the difference other than the odor. I wont use it on my CCW guns anymore because I cant stand the smell.

Re: Is Break Free CLP good to use on plastic frame guns

Well, maybe I got an old bottle of it. It hardly has any smell at all. The main reason I want to change is because of the smell that Hoppes 9 has. It is too cold in the garage to clean the guns and Hoppes drives the family nuts because of the oder.
I uses it (Breakfree) last night and no oder. I did notice it ismuch more oilier than Hoppes is but did a nice job.

The smell of Hoppes is the smell of freedom!

Re: Is Break Free CLP good to use on plastic frame guns

I've never had any issue with my plastic guns using CLP.

I used to use only Hoppes, but there are some things that are just easier to clean out with a spray, like the firing pin area.

I agree but a house full of women have a differing option of good oders. ( I don't sleep with Hoppes )

    OH for CLEANING guns.....

Jeez you guys like to work dont ya.....

For cleaning everything I own From Glocks to Weatherbys its one of three things
Brake Cleaner, Electric Motor Cleaner, or in a pinch Gumout Carb Cleaner

BUT make sure you oil ever part of it when youre done because it removes ALL the oil. So blueing will start to show signs of corrosion if its not protected and Parkerizing will be showing in a days around this area of the country (south)
