Does anyone know what a typical throat distance is? (The gap between cylinder and barrel). I went thru several revolvers I have, and they run from .002 to .012......Seems like a pretty big spread. Is it critical?

Just a correction in terminology ...
The gap between the face of the cylinder and the rear of the barrel is called the Cylinder Gap.
The Throat is the area from the rear face of the barrel to the start of the rifling in the barrel.
The rear face of the barrel in a revolver is also called the breech.
Thanx guys (both) for really good info. I'm slowly working my way thru making this revolver work right !!
